UCLA Achievement Scholarship Award--What is this??

I'm hearing a lot of people recieved this UCLA Achievement Scholarship Award along with their acceptance. I'm just wondering, what is this? How do you recieve it? I got barely any financial aid help, and they are expecting my mother to take out tens of thousands in parent loans. Did anyone apply for this award, or was it just given to you?

Anyone can apply to this scholarship from January to mid February, but email invitations were sent out to above average applicants, I think.

So it’s given to students based on high marks? Do you know the GPA requirement?

i got it and it was totally unexpected, as in i didn’t even know it existed. so no, i guess you can’t explicitly apply for it. i heard a rumor they only considered 4.0 UW GPAs for it, but i’m not sure if that’s true

I also got it and had no idea what it was. But I do have a 4.0 UW GPA also, so that could be it!

I got it with a 3.9UW GPA

This is need-based financial aid.

I got a UCLA scholarship recognition award of about $4K just for filling out the FAFSA before the deadline and because I demonstrate financial need.
