I want to transfer to UCLA as a Business Economics major from a CC. However, i got a C in Calculus 31a. Will it jeopardize my chances? I have a 3.46 and i finished all of the requirements with decent grades except for Calculus 31b. So if i manage to get a B or higher in Calculus 31b, will i have a better chance? I really want to know because getting a C in calculus 31a already screwed my chances with UCI since they require a B or higher.

UCLA Biz-Econ is one of the most selective majors in the entire UC system. From the admittance profiles I’ve seen, even people with 3.8+ aren’t safe. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you have a 3.46 GPA your odds aren’t good.

I don’t think getting a B in 31B will increase your chances, your GPA dictates your chances.

^No you dont. By the time of application? Ha, yeah…right. As long as you dont have more than 2 prereqs to finish in the spring then most 3.8+ have a good shot

Well, seeing as you have done the necessary research for UCI’s transfer rules, do the same for UCLA and you’ll know whether or not they accept C’s in Math classes or not.

The major you are applying for is very impacted so I’m not sure if your GPA is going to cut it, but I still think you have a chance of getting in. Don’t listen to the pessimists on this board, they like to kick people when they’re vulnerable.

The Assist.Org page does not say anything about having to get a B in Calculus to be considered for admission to UCLA’s Business Program. A C is a passing grade and before the days of rampant grade inflation was a perfectly respectable grade in a difficult course like Calculus. I think you are eligible to transfer to UCLA with a C in Calculus, I am just not sure how competitive you will be.

I don’t even think they review apps below a 3.50 for this major…on top of that, you’ll usually need a 3.9+ to get admitted into Bus Econ @ UCLA.

Yea UCLA, UCSB, and UCD ( those are the other schools I applied to besides UCI) doesn’t require me to get a B or higher for those classes. But, I heard from my counselors and other students that getting a C will not get me accepted.

@Investment, Billionaire is correct. You are admitted as a pre-major. You then take the two courses Econ 101 - Microeconomic Theory, and Econ 11 - Econometrics IIRC. I may be wrong on the two classes but yeah you get my point. After completing those at UCLA you are admitted into the major.

Investment, what do you base this off of? There are 7 prerequisites to complete at CC and 2 more at UCLA for a grand total of NINE PREREQUISITES. They aren’t gonna fret if you’ve got only TWO to finish in the spring, if you already completed five and have a 3.8+. Especially considering you have IGETC to make steady progress on as well.

Your point would be valid if the major had fewer prereqs, like 3 or 4.
