UCLA Admit

I am a senior at a private high school in New York. I am Filipino and African American. UCLA is my top school, and I am willing to do anything to try and get in there. I have a 3.7 UW GPA and a 1950 SAT score (660 M, 640 CR, 650 W). My school offers limited APs, so I have only taken 3: I have also taken 3 honors classes. I took SAT subject tests in Biology (600) and Math II (650). I am a 3 season varsity athlete, vice president of the African American club, and member of the Science Honor Society. I have volunteered over 150 hours at homeless centers and hospitals. I am applying to the college of undeclared arts and sciences. What are my chances of possibly getting into UCLA?

To be a competitive applicant as an OOS student, you want your SAT in the 2100+ range. You also need to calculate your UC GPA and want a target of 4.1+. URM status will not be considered. EC’s look good. Write some excellent essays and bump up your SAT score and you might have a chance.

Getting in is only half the battle. Paying for UCLA will be the other. OOS students get little to no financial aid so expect to pay close to $55K/year for the priviledge to attend.

Good Luck

UC admission from out of state is tough because no weight is assigned to honors courses; Only APs and IBs get weighted. You will also have to verify that you have sufficient classes that meet the A-G requirements.

Can you afford $55k/yr as a fullpay OOS student? California schools are legally barred from considering race, so being black will not give you an admissions bump. You are better off applying to private schools.

Consider USC as an alternative.
