So, I just recently got accepted into UCSD...
but I am really hoping I can get accepted into UCLA.... But, I was reviewing my UC application and stats.... & I am extremely worried :(

Can anybody please chance me based on theses stats ?
GPA: cumulative of 3.99/4.0 (unweighted)
SAT I: 1830... Yeah, it's extremely low :(
SAT II: Chinese-800, Math II- 700, BioM- 650
*enrolled in FULL IB classes since junior year.

EC's: 250+volunteer hours, 2 internships during my sophomore and junior years in China (both internships were related to international business), Dance (10+ years), key club, math team, FBLA,

Essays: both were decent; i talked about dance for Personal Statement 1. And this cultural experience for Personal Statement 2.

PLEASE HELP -_-

Your GPA probably makes up for your not-so-shining SAT score. It still isn’t bad though. Do you know what your UC GPA is? If you’ve been taking weighted classes since junior year and gotten straight As it’s probably pretty high, and that will help. It’s also a pretty rigorous courseload and you have some good ECs. I’d say it’s a low to mid reach. If you’re out of state, high reach.

We can’t really predict the UC system this year. It looks like you have a fighting chance, but with the outcomes so far, who knows.

Guess we’ll find out Friday!

Yeah, I’m an OOS applicant! So, hopefully that’ll help a little bit… But the UC system has been so hard to predict… I don’t know what’s going to happen! So nervous for Friday :(

And yeah, I’ve been taking unweighted classes… and pretty much gotten straight A’s… does anybody know how to calculate UC GPA ?

And did any of you guys apply to UCLA too ?

Oops, I meant weighted classes***

I’m pretty sure IB is weighted. And being out of state would not help you, it would hurt you. Public universities want more in state applicants because they are funded by the state tax payer. It’ll also harm you if you need financial aid to pay for OOS tuition, which is significantly more.

Not trying to get your hopes down, you really are a fantastic applicant. You have a great GPA, I’m almost certain IB classes are weighted. If you’re looking for comfort in these chance threads, you’re not going to find any. I’d say just wait out the next three days, having to read everyone’s different opinions is just going to add to the torture :P.

Oh… And Yeah You’re right. I guess i just have to wait out the next three days!

But thanks for the opinions :)

hey i think we are in similar situation. my sat scores and subject tests were not impressive either. but i guess my ec and previous grades help me out. i got into UCSD too, but i also want to go to UCLA…so i just cant help to be worried. which major did you apply for both anyway?

I would guess your UC GPA is 4.3-4.4 range

I would like to know why you would want to pay $55k/year to attend a public Uni? What is it that the UC’s offer that your instate public does not?

This year OOS might be an advantage. You pay full price for an inferior quality.
