I'm in a bit of a mess since admissions did not go to well for me, I'm a senior in high school. NO LA, most likely no Cal as a result, and waitlisted for SD. I want to stick with Aerospace Engineering so my only other hope for now is UCI, but I'm wondering if it's worth it?

So to my main question, is the process difficult and the likelihood of transferring from Irvine to LA high? I need to know, so if it is too difficult then should I just stick with my community college for the next two years and transfer to UCLA if that too isn't too unlikely? It is an option I have no choice but to consider now, but I really, really don't want to go to a CC of course especially since I live in probably the most boring city in the world (Fresno), but if I have to suck it up then I guess whatever.

Thanks to whomever may help.

I STRONGLY suggest that you suck it up (as you put it) and go to Community College for 2 years if you really want to go to UCLA. That is the best and most efficient route. I would say transferring from Irvine to LA (especially for Aerospace Engineering - one of the more impacted branches of Engineering at UCLA) would be near-impossible, since they give highest priority to CCC students when it comes to transfers. If you do really well at your community college you will have a really good shot at getting into UCLA.

Hello, I’m majoring in mechanical so I think I know your situation.

UCI and UCSD are both great schools for engineering (especially in Aero). From what I’ve heard, you’d pretty much enjoy either one. They’re both located in nicer/richer parts of town.

If you go to a CC, its a risk. You may end up being there for longer than you may have planned. Engineering majors have a ton of pre-reqs and its difficult to finish them all within 2 years. But you seem pretty smart, so I think you can do it. But like I said, you’re gambling years of life and you may not even get into UCLA. But worst comes to worst, I’m sure you’ll end up no lower than a school equivalent to UCSD/UCI which you’ve already gotten into. So in the end, if you didnt get into UCLA, all you would have lost is just a couple of years. So if you don’t mind missing two years of a university and being stuck in fresno, then do it. Go to a CC and take the gamble.

However, if you feel two years of CC and fresno isn’t worth it, then stay in UCI/UCSD and try to transfer out. But don’t stress over it. If you don’t get into UCLA, what did you lose? Nothing really. You got your two years of experience at a great university.

But I must say, you have a MUCH great shot at UCLA if you go to a CC. At UCI/UCSD you’ll find it hard to find equivalent courses that satisfy UCLA Engineering courses. And of course, CC students have a priority of UC/UC transfers.

Thanks for the help, I think I might just stick with San Diego or Irvine, I thought so too that CCC would’ve been easier to transfer into LA, but I guess I don’t really have any problem with either of those two if I stay there, there’s always another chance with grad afterwards if I’m still set on LA haha.

Thanks again.
