Does UCLA look at your choice of alt major if both primary and alt major are under the same school. I applied for Bioe for primary and cheme for alt. I've finished all the cheme pre reqs but not bioe.

I'm in the same boat, but for Business Econ and Econ. I can do all the Econ pre-reqs, but I need to finish two more for BizEcon.

Hopefully they consider the alternate!

they better..

lol, i've already let go of all hopes of going to UCLA, even though i have a 3.7 and all pre-reqs complete. Econ is just too competitive there.

<20% admit rate, 3.8 ave gpa--econ

60% admit rate, 3.66 ave gpa--cheme

i still have a chance, although not a good one.

better than me! lol. I don't stand a chance. UCI here i come!

If you have an alternate major it means that you are TAP certified and if you have completed TAP and have a relatively close GPA to the average GPA of admitted students to that major you all should have an above average chance.

I don't have TAP, but I did choose an alternate major.

i'm trying to transfer from a UC.

Well then the alternative major won't help you out then kevinc121. From what I know UCLA really only uses alternate majors for TAP certified students. A UCLA rep told me in very rare cases they will use the alternate major for students that are not TAP certified but only for non impacted majors and econ is definitely not one of them.

That's so lame! Why even ask me for an alternate major then?

UCLA can eat it.

so how about me? what if i dont get accepted for my first choice major? Will they even look at my second choice major?

yah, unfortunately if you are not TAP certified you won't get in to alternate major...

only if i had known.. i chose the one i knew i had little chance for first choice and the one i had some chance for alt, thinking i would be reviewed for both.

o well too late now... just hope for luck!

UCLA has no mercy. haha.

confirmed. UCLA emailed me back stating "UCLA does not review applicants for their second choice major."

yeah they have too many applicants so they are more strict on admissions

that's terrible. why would they build up false hope. I know for a fact that UCSD does look at alternative majors. My friend applied as ChemE and then Chem as his alternative, it turned out that he ended being accepted as a chemistry major (2nd choice).

they might build up false hope so that you can apply and pay the application fee that is not refundable
