I am a current 1st yr who received the Alumni Scholarship so message me any questions you have about it!

Anyone can apply on the website, not just people who are invited. The scholarship is an amaaazing opportunity (This and the Regents Scholarship are the only 2 merit scholarships UCLA offers). Throughout CA, there are 80 Freshman and 30 Bunche (URM) alumni scholarships awarded EACH YEAR to incoming freshmen. It ranges from $4000-17,500 over 4 years (and there are MANY people who get 6k, 8k, 10k,etc). Definitely apply, it’s worth the time! BTW you can also reuse essays you used on your UC app because it isn’t judged/seen by the UCLA Admissions office.

petaandpita…Should the letters of recommendation be from teachers/couselor and/or community members who can talk about your ECs or volunteer work? Also, what do you think they are looking for in an applicant? Is the focus on leadership and community service? Thanks for your help :)

I got both of mine from teachers, I don’t remember what the app says about getting them from counselors/etc though. I’d probably just stick with teachers unless you see somewhere where it says otherwise. Of course ask the rec-writers to focus more on your leadership/extracurricular involvement than academics as this is a different type of app than your regular college app.

On their website it says they’re looking for people who have “demonstrated academic excellence, powerful leadership and a desire to effect positive change”. So just emphasize whatever experiences you’ve had that show these characteristics. good luck!!

this is exactly like norman topping scholarship from usc. it’s a seperate organization tied to the university, sending out the invitations. admissions aren’t the ones that are sending it out, it’s what ever organization is tied to the school. So this means that this isn’t a sign of admission.

i did not recieve the email, i recieved a supplement instead, which tells me i actually still have a chance

Yes!! I received this as well. Is it similar to the meaningless UC Berkeley Alumni scholarship email? (the one that everyone got).
My stats are 4.46 W GPA, 31 ACT, 2040 SAT. Soo is this a good indication, or did every applicant receive this email?

Has anyone put in their essays for the UCLA Alumni Scholarship? My son’s essay was multiple paragraphs, but when you get to the “Certification” page their are no breaks for paragraphs. It just looks like one huge paragraph. Any advice?
