So it seems like people have been getting emails encouraging them apply (applicants for fall 07) but i still havent got anything. Should i be concerned?

Apply anyway. I never got the e-mail from UCLA, I applied for it anyway and got it. IMO, the UCLA Alumni Assn is a little bit disorganized, maybe why you didn't get the e-mail.

Nah, don't worry about it. A lot of my friends didn't get it and still got in, anyhow.

I got my e-mail a couple of days ago, but my friend just got his today. Maybe your e-mail is on the way?

You don't need to receive the e-mail to apply for the scholarship, just go to the Alumni website... :)

from out of state, too?

I just got the email but does it mean anything big? I'm kind of a procrastinator and the essays might stop me. But what if you applied but didn't get into ucla? I'm guessing the $ only goes to people they already know are accepted.

According to the rep who came to my school, the adcom and the Alumni Association that picks the scholarship recipients are totally unrelated. There's no communication between them, so they don't "already know people are accepted." It's possible that you get awarded a scholarship but are rejected. I'm sure that in most cases, though, if you're good enough to have gotten the scholarship, you're good enough to get into the school.

My d got this scholarsip last year, and there was coordination with the UCLA alumni association with admissions. She was told by the local alumni coodinator who was organizing the finalist panel interview that they knew she was going to be interviewed for the scholarship, but had to wait until admissions were released. The phone call for the alumni assn followed admissions by 3-4 days, and was made to her cell phone.

Do you have any other questions? The perks make the scholarship valuable. She also got awarded one from UCI and was a semifinalist for Berkeley Alumni Scholarship. All of these notifications came after admissions were released.

In the dark-need guidance--D attend large ps hs in california--couseling staff minimal and have to do own research. Applied to UCLA...how does she apply for this scholarship? or is she ineligible as instate???

Anybody know what the entire selection procedure is? If i read correctly, it might involve 2 trips down to LA for interviews in April?

I think that one of the interviews will be set up at a station near your hometown .. I think ..

I was told both were on the UCLA campus.

last year, a few days after admissions decisons were released online, an alum contacted my d and interviews were held locally the next weekend. Out of the 25 or so winners in orange county, only a few were chosen to go on campus for the State Finals weekend.

So if we did not get an alumni scholarship invitation ti already means we are out of the running for admittance???

no.
