i got a call this morning telling me to apply for ucla alumni scholarship. I went online and checked out the website uclalumni.net/scholarships , and it said you need at least 90 units at the time of applying to be eligible, but i didnt have that many

they must be releasing decisions early, people got this call around the 14-16th last year if you look up the old thread and we are only on the 11th. I already applied for the scholarship, so I don’t expect a call but congrats on getting one, at least its something to hold you over.

just out of curiosity, was it from a private number or a number that had like a lot of digits? my bf got a call this morning, 1st from a private number which he answered but he had no service, then got a 2nd call right after with a really weird long digit number starting with like a 512 area code.

I too just got a call from the UCLA alumni association inviting me to apply for a merit based scholarship. I didn’t pick up the phone because I didn’t recognize the number, but it was from a 310 area code (not a private number).

Haha i was wondering how long it would take some1 to create a thread about this.

Hopefully the earlier notification indicates that we will get our decisions sooner than last year. Hopefully we will get a response within the next two weeks.

EDIT: is the scholarship need-based only? There was no place for me to put any income info so I’m assuming the 4k (distributed over 2 years) is merit-based. However, an additional 5k is possible for those who have financial need. Am I correct in my assumption?

yeah, i just got a call around 15 minutes ago

you guys, i was wondering is this a “good sign” in terms of acceptance? or do they do this to everyone who applied (i doubt it, because it would be a waste of time to do so)

hopefully, this is ucla’s message to us that we’re in!

the above thread i posted talks about what it means, i think that they call everyone that applied that is eligible to apply for the scholarship regardless.

last year when somebody contacted the alumni association about not getting a phone call, this is what they replied with:

Last night, and again tonight, our current Alumni Scholars are reaching out to Community College Transfer applicants that have met the GPA requirement for our application; which you certainly have. We would love to call every single one of the applicants, but unfortunately are limited on our resources. Please do not take it as an indication that you should not apply for the scholarship just because we don’t call you, it truly has no baring on your qualifications or possibilities. However, if you would like to speak with a current scholar please let me know and I can make sure that happens. I have included a direct link to our scholarship application and hope that you will apply."

So basically, if you didn’t get one do not freak out, they only have so many people that can call.

yeah, the calls don’t mean rejected/accepted, they basically are calling off a list of qualified students that have the needed requirements for the scholarship, such as 3.75 or higher GPA, they don’t take major or other things into consideration.

does everyone here have a really high GPA (3.8+)? I’m trying to figure out what the GPA is that would “qualify” an applicant for this call haha. and could it mean that we were rejected if we don’t get the call?
