UCLA Alumni Scholarships Invite

Just got an email inviting me to apply for the UCLA Alumni Scholarship. Feel free to share and discuss!

All UCLA applicants are qualified to apply to this scholarship and this email seems like a mass email to all.

There’s some good info from last year’s thread (<a href=“UCLA Alumni Scholarship invitation - University of California - Los Angeles - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/1458538-ucla-alumni-scholarship-invitation-p1.html</a>) especially posts by @nose2Dgrind

I’m thinking that the process detailed is still relevant for this year, although of course UCLA might have changed procedures and just emailed everyone about the scholarship.

Thanks for the link @ojeshsh. So basically only about 4,000 are “invited” via email (although any applicant can apply w/o being invited) and these 4,000 applicants were referred from Office of Admission.

I got this email today and my heart skipped a beat - I thought it was the Regents Invite. Oh well.

If what nose2Dgrind says is true, it is cool to get the email invite, but I’m not sure yet whether or not I will apply for the scholarship. I wish this process took place after we know if we are actually accepted at UCLA, and rejected from any choices that are higher on our list (for example, I probably won’t choose UCLA if I get into Berkeley). Additionally, I’m not a good interviewer at all, and it seems to have a heavy weight in this process.

Ojeshsh, are you planning to apply?

My daughter got the email as well. She’ll definitely apply. This and Regents.

Did they send out all the emails today? I didn’t get one but my gc told me that I’m even somewhat overqualified based on the UC averages for test scores and gpa. It also seems like there is not much in terms of replies (4000 applicants and only 3 who have mentioned it?).

I got one today. GPA UW: 4.0. ACT: 35. I didn’t get the regents though, does anyone have any information on if they are gonna send out more regents scholar notifications?

My older daughter was a state finalist for this a few years ago. She went through a few round of interviews. The finals was really a good experience for her. The finalists were really bright students with bright personalities, the kind who would be student body presidents or founders of clubs. My daughter ended up going to a different school though. If you get an invite, you should apply.

I got an invite this morning! I was stoked, especially after reading the comment by nose2grind

@OACLJV Yes, I will be applying for this and Regents! I agree, I’d be somewhat more likely to attend Berkeley if I were accepted there, but receiving a scholarship at LA could definitely change my final decision.

Let me get this straight- the email is an honor to get? Or does everyone get this email?

Checking the 2013 thread, only 4000 people get the invite so you’re not in but you have a good chance.
Also, guys this is a personal question but looking back at one of my personal statement essays, I’m so upset right now. It turns out the last couple of words for my second essay were cut off and didn’t get submitted. Is there any chance at all for me? :’(

justin5585- can you contact the office of admissions and let them know?

So did anyone not get the alumni email?

randomq2014 - I was planning on contacting them anyway. I wanted to update with a research abstract and a recent award I received. I’m just worried that if I explain my situation to them, they’re going to automatically penalize me for it. I feel terrible right now, seeing that since I received the scholarhship invite, I have a pretty good chance too…

It looks like the invitations are coming in Waves. Good Luck to all

So, if my S didn’t get an email/phone call/postcard inviting him to apply for this scholarship, are his chances for being accepted into UCLA low?

No, this has no bearing on admission. Strictly based on SAT and GPA: objective states. And more than 4,000 students get accepted to LA.

@tasmom
I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. Regents invite were sent to the top 1.5% applicants. Alumni invite to the top 4 or 5 percent. UCLA is projected to accept about 19% of all applicants (16,000+) this year.
