UCLA Alumni Scholarships Invite

@2018dad wow top 5%? So does it mean that those with an email invite have a good chance of getting admitted? I’ve always thought ucla was a reach for me (4.33 gpa, 2170 sat)

@2018dad @atypicalasian I got the email but my scores and GPA don’t seem high enough for that percentile. I have a 4.3 gpa and a 30 ACT.

Congratulations @randomq2014,
When did you get the e-mail?

@ljmom

got it yesterday.

It says:
We invite you to apply for one of UCLA’s most prestigious scholarships, offered by the Alumni Scholarships Program. For over 77 years, a select group of distinguished Bruins have had the honor of being known as Alumni Scholars. Out-of-State Scholarships provide an outstanding opportunity for highly accomplished students from outside of California to help fund their UCLA education.

We invite you to apply for one of UCLA’s most prestigious scholarships by clicking here!
Deadline to apply: Friday, February 28, 2014
Being an Alumni Scholar is more than just receiving a scholarship. Scholars are involved in campus events and organizations with likeminded students, increase their connections throughout the university, and attain skills that will benefit your professional career well after graduation.

We are excited and look forward to receiving your application.

Thanks @randomq2014.
My son has 4.3 uncapped (4.14 capped) and 35 ACT… perhaps he just missed it.

@ljmom Seems strange. Those are great stats though. I’m sure your son will do well!

I’m wondering if Alumni are looking at the unweighted GPA. My son has a 3.71 unweighted, which isn’t a top 5% score. However, he has a 4.43 weighted, and a 30 ACT. His weighted and ACT match up closely to @randomq2014 stats.

Thanks @randomq2014!

I got that letter as well, I would think they’d use the UC GPA for consideration. My stats are a 2390 SAT and 4.45 UC weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted)

Son got the letter but no phone call. Did anyone get a call? Stats were mid-2300’s on the SAT (single sitting), 800’s on a couple of SAT subject tests if that matters, and ~4.65 weighted uncapped.

I got the email from Berkeley, but not UCLA. :P

What was the name of the Berkeley scholarship? I can’t seem to find an “Alumni Scholarship” on their webpage.

^^
The Leadership Award

Here’s the content of the email that Cal sent:

The Cal Alumni Association would like to invite you to apply for The Leadership Award, a one-year, merit-based scholarship for students who demonstrate innovative, initiative-driven leadership impacting their academic, work, or community environments.

I got the Berkeley invite, too. However, it says at the bottom that it has no bearing on your admissions decision.

I got both the UCLA and Berkeley invites. My UC GPA
s are 3.97 and 4.23, but my SAT score is 1880… Still going to apply though because of my EC’s.

do internationals get the email?

I got both the Berkeley and UCLA invites a few days ago.

Cool, I also received the Alumni/Leadership invites! Are you guys sure it means we’re in the top 5% of applicants? And how did past recipients of these emails fare in the applicant pool? Thanks, haha.

If i didnt get the alumni invite email and i applied as an aerospace engineering major, should I just consider myself denied? (4.0 and 4.19 UC GPAs and 32 ACT)

No. UCLA’s admit rate is much higher than the % who got the email.
