Anyone else get a phone call reminding them to apply? Hope this is a good sign! Guy on the phone wouldn’t speculate as to what this all means re admission (of course!).

My son got an email reminder but no phone call.

Someone on the other thread said that whoever got the invite has a 70-80% chance of admission. I’m not sure how accurate that is, though.

@collegetime18 I got a phone call this afternoon.

I received an email yesterday and I received a phone call today morning inviting me to apply because I was supposedly part of the top applicant pool. I asked if this invite had any bearing on admissions, and he said no, but that it was most likely that I will be accepted. Should I be happy about this, or should I not shroud myself in false hope?

@estrella123, If you just got the e-mail that is an indication that UCLA alumni invites come in waves.

It was a reminder email, I believe. I got it on Friday as well, in addition to earlier this month (or maybe very late January). The deadline to apply is this week so I don’t think they would be sending out an initial invite this late.

Question: If you’re getting tuition covered through Cal Grants, could the scholarship be applied to room & board/other expenses?

The alumni invite means absolutely NOTHING in terms of potential acceptance. Repeat: nothing. It is a wholly generic letter send almost universally. DO NOT think this even remotely reflects anything about your chances for admission.

@makennacompton: Source?

They do not send the letter to almost everyone. Receiving the letter means that a committee (but not the admissions committee) believe you are among the top of the applicants. Yet, there are people who receive the letter who end up not getting accepted to the university. I think one of the best explanation of the process was in the discussion from last year’s thread.

why did i get one from ucb but not ucla ?

@Prosaicminds I think UCB’s leadership scholarship invitations are given to a broader range of applicants than the UCLA’s Alumni scholarship application. When my older daughter was going through the process 3 years ago, the UCLA’s ASC felt more formal and stringent than UCB’s leadership scholarship.

My D got the following email from ASC. It sounds like only accepted students will be reviewed by the ASC committee now. Anyone hear differently?

“In late March, admission notifications will be sent from the UCLA Undergraduate Admissions Office. If admitted, your application will be reviewed by Alumni Scholarships Volunteers who are dedicated alumni and friends of the university across the nation. High scoring applicants will then be invited for an interview on April 5th or 6th. Interviews will be conducted in your city or via Skype.”

^ Makes sense. Reading apps of non-admits would be kinda pointless.

Hey all I got the email that interviews will be on the 5th or 6th but do you know when we will find out if we are being interviewed?

And does anyone know how many people are chosen to get interviewed?

You’ll get an email.

Has anybody been chosen for an interview yet?

Not me… Still waiting… And slowly losing hope :(
