UCLA and UCB Status

By the end of this summer I'll have about 40 semester credits. I'm planning on applying to UCLA, UCB, and UCSD. By spring 09 I'll have 60 units total so it's ok for me to apply this fall. The thing is I have not taken any of my prerequisite classes yet. I am planning on taking the prerequisite classes during fall 08 and spring 09. UCLA and UCB require

biology one year
gen chem one year
calculus one year
One semester of Organic Chemisty

I'm planning on taking all those classes by spring 09.

The question that I'm asking is: Will not having completed the prereq's at the time of my application, hurt my chance of acceptance? Additionally, will the grades that I receive in those classes for the fall and spring term help my application? By the way my gpa for my application is around a 3.65. And I'm a biology major.

if anyone could please answer my question id greatly appreciate it thanks :)

It would be nice to have taken most of your classes by fall but it will not kill your chances. they will be able to see your grades for the classes in fall but your grades in those spring semester does not really matter as long as you keep up a 3.0.

be careful, with your time management!, as you re taking all the hard classes in one year. I assure you completed other GE classes already, this would not be too hard. But you only have fall grade show to them (for the pre-req classes). I guess you are just doing the minimun admission requirement, UCLA will be tough... to get in... if you do not complete all classes be4 transfer.

"UCLA will be tough... to get in... if you do not complete all classes be4 transfer."

Yeah that's what I was asking, is taking the prereq during fall and spring gonna affect my admission?

technically, it shouldn't. unless you have ALL of your pre-req's done in the spring. i'd be more worried about boosting your GPA a bit, if you really want to be solid. it's not bad, don't think that, but higher the better (clearly).

try to take a pre-req during the summer, then fall and then spring. maybe spreading it out as much as possible, that can help.

"try to take a pre-req during the summer"

I thought UC's only recognize classes you'll be taking during the fall and winter semesters?

no, they accept summer courses as well. i know someone who took a chem pre-req over summer.

as long as you finish your prereqs, you should be good.

i got into Cal without finishing half of my prereqs for my MCB major.

one question: what about physics? i'm almost positive every bio major needs to do a year of physics for their major.

Physics with one year of calculus is recommended but not required
