UCLA and UCI nursing

I’m wondering what are my chances of getting accepted to UCLA and UCI for nursing.

  • SAT score: 1340
  • weighted GPA = 4.23
  • played badminton for 3 years
  • volunteered at a hospital for 2 years
  • was officer of a medical club for 1 year
  • taken CP Bio and AP Chem

UCLA accepts like 50 out of the 2,000 applicants and slightly more with UCI, 80… ㅠㅠ… do I have a chance in this ? ㅠㅠ

With a 2-3% acceptance rate neither school would be considered a Match but based on UCI’s Freshman 2018 stats you are on target.

UCI Nursing Stats:
Fall 2018 freshman applicants: 2,887
Fall 2018 freshman admissions: 72 (2.5% admitted)
Average UC GPA: 4.24 GPA
Average total SAT score: 1914
Average total SAT score (new version): 1332

No stats for UCLA, but definitely worth an application.

Make sure you have some solid Safety schools.

Best of luck.

Where do you find these stats and thank you for replying!

The UCI stats were posted on the UCI Nursing website in October but I no longer see that information.

For UCLA, all I could find is that for the 2018 Freshman Class there were 3038 applicants and 51 admitted making it a 2% admit rate.

Have you considered also applying to SDSU and CS Fullerton for direct admit nursing?

I agree with @CSUdream that you should consider SDSU and CSU Fullerton along with a few other direct admit Nursing programs since the odds for UCI and UCLA are very low and California Nursing programs are very competitive and impacted.

SDSU and CSU Fullerton admit by Eligibility index so based on your posted stats, your EI is (4.23 x800) + (1340)= 4724. An Eligibility index of 4550+ can be competitive for these programs.

You might also want to consider University of San Francisco and Arizona State both have direct admit Nursing programs.

Yes @CSUdream , besides UCI and UCLA, I am also applying to SDSU, SJSU, CSU Fullerton, and CSU Long Beach for nursing.

@Gumbymom @CSUdream thank you!

Also, does my alternate major have to be science related?

Your alternate major does not have to be Science Related.

UCLA does not consider alternate majors. UCI admits into the University first and then into the major. They do consider alternate majors.

SDSU/CSULB do not consider alternate majors. CSU Fullerton will consider your alternate major if you are not accepted into the Nursing program along with SJSU.

Ahh i have another question

Is UC gpa and CSU gpa different? Isn’t CSU gpa 10th-11th, but what is UC gpa?

UC capped weighted GPA (a cap of 8 semesters of UC approved honors points) = CSU GPA
Both use 10-11th grades for a-g courses only.

UC’s also consider the fully weighted UC GPA which is an unlimited # of UC approved honors points for a-g courses taken 10-11th grades.

I like the RogerHub calculator which gives you the unweighted UC GPA, Capped weighted UC GPA and Fully weighted UC GPA. Most of the statistical UC GPA data listed on the websites is the UC capped weighted GPA unless specifically noted.
