UCLA and UMich premed rates

Hey!

What are the acceptance rates like for UCLA and University of Michigan into medical school?

I'm choosing between the two atm (it's proving very difficult :() and this is a factor...

Ive heard research etc. at UCLA is more extensive/better, but the med school acceptance rates are only 50%! Does this mean it's easier to get into med school from Michigan, or that it prepares you better?

Muchos gracias

Post #4 in particular: <a href=“If you are in high school, please read this before posting - Pre-Med Topics - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/pre-med-topics/1484178-if-you-are-in-high-school-please-read-this-before-posting-p1.html</a></p>

Oops, sorry, I hadn’t looked around this forum!

Thanks for that actually, it was pretty helpful

Sarah…are you an intl? If so, those med rates really wont apply to you at all.

Rates have NO relevance to you personally. All will depend on your college GPA, MCAT score and sufficient amount of medical ECs. You are wasting your time looking at rates. Just ask yourself where you prefer to be for the next 4 years and do your best while attending there. Keep in mind that no UG will acatually prepare you academically for Med. School. That is why Med. Schools do not care much about your major and not much about the name of your UG. They know that kids from the very wide variety of UG and many with advanced degrees, including PhD’s from the top Grad. programs will have to learn anew at Med. School. D. said that the only peopl who had advantage were Masters in Anatomy. But those are the ones who did not get accepted to Med. School (sometime on several tries) and that is why they went to Grad. School. At least it was the case in her class. She never understood why they were not successful for several years applying to Med. Schools. Apparently, your personal stats and other achievements in UG override everything else, including the name of your UG.

In real estate, it is “location, location, location!”
In the med school admission, it is your state of residency which plays a major role in determining your chance. What you see in the different admission rates between these two colleges is mostly because there are many California residents in UCLA, and the majority of the students attending U. of Mich are not from a “competitive state” like California.
