According to AP Credit - College of Letters and Science - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions , I will be able to get 60 units of credit for AP Tests. I was wondering if UCLA will actually give me this amount of credits like it says on their website. Also I am wondering approximately how many credits you need to graduate UCLA. Thanks in advance!

Same question.

And if they give you all those credits, does that allow you to graduate early, or do you still have to attend for four years, but simply take less credits than a “normal” person each semester???

It depends on your AP tests, but you WILL get all 60 units. Unfortunately, most of it will be elective credit. Only like AP English and AP Calculus will get you out of a few classes. You will likely still graduate in 4 years because a majority of those 60 units go towards electives that do not fulfill pre-major requirements or actual major requirements.

AP credits will also not count for GE requirements.

You need 180 units to graduate UCLA, but you’re going to go way above this requirement because of pre-college AP units, but you won’t be able to graduate earlier necessarily, since many courses are required (although this depends on your major, pre-req courses range from 3 courses to 21 courses and major requirements range from 9-14 courses.)

On the other hand, they’re REALLY helpful in getting you a higher class standing so you can enroll earlier. =D

So even though I’ll be getting 60 units for AP World, AP US, AP English III, AP Chem, AP Bio, AP AB Calculus, AP Physics B, and AP English IV, I won’t be able to graduate earlier? My major is Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics by the way.

You won’t be able to graduate significantly earlier. You can pass out of English Comp 3 and possibly a few math courses depending on your score and which exam you took. If you took AP Calc AB and got a 5 or AP Calc BC and got a 4, you will pass out of Math 3A/31A. If you took AP Calc BC and got a 5, you will pass out of Math 3B/31B. All of the others are just credits. You still have to take all of the GE requirements, etc.

Salsatime,

With those courses, you’ll (at MOST), pass out of two courses.

I see, thank you for the help!

What I posted on another thread:

The most beneficial AP tests to take in terms of actually getting you credit for an equivalent class (and thereby satisfying possible major prereqs or GEs) are language exams (except spanish lit), english exams, calculus AB or BC (you need a 5 on AB or 4-5 on BC), and econ. In other words, any of the AP tests in that chart that have an equivalent title/course NUMBER listed are ones that actually get you course credit.

For MIMG english, language, and calc would be most beneficial to take.
