I was rejected from UCLA this past Friday. This is my top school and I wanted to create this discussion for those who plan on writing an appeal to talk about why they feel they were rejected and what they are gonna write to change the admissions decision. Good luck to you all!
I’m thinking of appealing too! I heard the number of people getting accepted off appeal hovers around 3-5% tho
@uclaappeal2020 It’s very difficult to get in off an appeal but hoping for the best! Hope we both get in.
What steps do we take to appeal?
I was told that having your college counsellor call and advocate is most effective, especially if they point out things that were either overlooked, not clear or perhaps omitted.
@GriffBaum https://www.admission.ucla.edu/AppealsFr.htm Follow this link! Basically we write a letter and submit it online.
@klingon97 where did you hear that from? I’ve never heard that before.
I heard that from other candidates. It makes sense. College counsellors are held to be more objective, whereas applicants will obvious advocate on their own behalf. Your counsellor can more effectively make the case that something was overlooked or not properly weighed. They won’t reconsider just because you say you badly want to attend.
I want to appeal and I was planning on writing about my honors classes. I took at least 10 honors classes during my 10-12 grade and while I was applying to my UC’s my counselor told me that I could not put in my application that I took honors classes. She basically told me that the honors classes my high school offers are not UC recognized. I earned really good grades in all of these classes and it just broke my heart that I could not list them. Do you think this is a good reason to appeal along with information about my own hardship and struggles?
Hey guys, I got in an appeal. Ask away
@Franchman thanks for showing up! what exactly did you write about? Do you know if there’s something they’re looking for?
Is there word limit for appeal?
appeal site opens tomorrow afternoon! good luck to everyone
Just sent in my appeal. Fingers crossed.
same @cof2020! what was your basis?
I wrote about several factors but my main point was that, for work and medically related reasons, I will be commuting to school and UCLA is close enough for me to do so. I also explained that I have maintained a strong GPA while taking Honors and AP classes despite my dad getting very ill my sophomore year and a death in my family my senior year. The death in my family in September is the reasoning for my job that will require me to commute.
It probably won’t change my decision but it was worth a shot.
My status just changed back to pending decision. Eeeek!
Where did you find that @cof20220 ?
@livinglife8 it’s on the regular admission decision portal
Oh ok, mine just pretty much says that they got my appeal and are looking over it. That’s why I was wondering.
Does anyone know where I can find appeal success stories for UCLA? Or does anyone happen to know someone who got into UCLA on an appeal (and what they said in their appeal)? sorry, very anxious.
