UCLA Applicants- What's your major?

Hey guys! I checked out this link someone posted on here (UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2008)
and saw good news for my major (Anthropology)

What's your major? Is it common for people to apply to a less competitive major to get offered admission and switch once they arrive on campus? Just wondering! Thanks!

Sexology, better believe it.

That’s why there’s something called prereqs that you should complete most of or all of by the spring prior to admission.

If you apply for the French major and have only taken one or two French classes it will look awfully suspicious.

In other words, if you demonstrate interest in the major you pledge by taking many classes in that subject area, they are more likely to believe that you really are going to stay in that department and take you over someone who hasn’t shown that same level of commitment.

Sociology
My GPA: 3.79
Avg. GPA of admitted 2008: 3.62

I’m an English major. Yay! My gpa is higher than the average admitted student.

I’m sure some people do that, but I think it’s pretty difficult/impossible to change into one of the really competitive ones, like biz econ.

heres the one for 2007 if anyone wants to compare:

[UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2007](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof07_mjr.htm)

Political Science
My GPA : 3.75
Avg: 3.65
2007’s Avg: 3.5

If this trend continues, my GPA will be the average. ■■■.

sigh this will be a mouthful…
microbiology/immunology/molecular genetics

Math/Econ
My GPA: 3.43
Avg GPA: 3.57

Fortunately my gpa is close to the applied gpa (3.47) and 70% were accepted to the major last year, so i think i still have a shot. :/

Computer Science
My GPA: 3.47
Average Admit GPA: 3.7

I am missing 3 pre-req classes.

It will be a stretch for me to get in. My essay was very good so that might be my only saving grace.

What do you think?

Biz Econ
My GPA: 3.946
Average Admit GPA: 3.82
Scary :(

History
My GPA: 3.9
Average 2008 Admit GPA:3.64
seems good :)

plus: go phillies, 3 hours till game time.

Biz Econ
My GPA: 3.946
Average Admit GPA: 3.82

how is that scary?

that means they admit people with GPAs below 3.82 which might be well below 3.946, such as 3.7 , maybe lower!

Biz Econ
GPA: 3.67
Average Admit GPA: 3.82

^^^ this is scary for me… not u!

Biochemistry
My GPA: 3.70
Avg Admit GPA Fall2008: 3.66
A little worried…since my GPA is fairly close to the borderline GPA

that’s not the borderline GPA rather the middle, therefore there are many with way higher and way lower so you look good.

Anthropology
My GPA: 3.4
Avg. Admit GPA: ? How did y’all find this?

okay, duh. the very first link was my answer. :|

Avg. Admit GPA: 3.4

Guess I may be in? Interesting.

Communication
Average Admits: 3.89
My GPA: 4.0
13% acceptance rate UGH!!!

Electrical Engineering
My GPA: 3.73
Avg. Admit GPA: 3.66

not sure of my chance… any thing can happen to UCLA. ( the only thing I’m optimistic about is that my application gets reviewed by professors in engineering department. They might give more generous admissions.
