Hi, I’m a junior in high school and I was wondering if any of you have tips for getting into the UCLA Art School. I’ll give you my stats and art related accomplishments:
-GPA: 4.1
-SAT: unsure because I just took it and haven’t gotten results yet
-I will have taken either 5 or 6 APs in high school, including AP Studio Art (which I’m taking next year)
-Major art related accomplishments: Ryman Arts scholar, and I got accepted to the UCLA art intensive summer program which I’ll be doing at UCLA this upcoming summer
What exactly are they looking for in a portfolio? Does each piece have to fit a theme of some sort? Do you have any advice for me? I could use all I can get
Thank you so much for reading!

Art portfolios sometimes have to follow the specifications outlined by a college. For example, the Rhode Island School of Design requires that you include a drawing of a bicycle in the art portfolio. If UCLA doesn’t provide any specifications, it is best to vary your submissions based on subject matter and how much you care for them. In regards to your question about themes, this variation would preclude such things from occurring.
There’s not enough information to go on so that I or anyone else can chance you accurately for UCLA. However, based on the information provided, it could go either way. Odds will be in your favor with an SAT score above 2000, a knockout essay, and a complete list of extracurriculars. Good luck!
