Hello everyone! I’ve applied for Fall 2018 for Architectural Studies. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find anyone else who has applied for this major (or any other art related major) this year. I opened up this discussion in hopes of sharing portfolios and also notifying each other of when the open house letter and decisions are sent out.
Hey! I thought I would never find someone who applied for Architectural Studies. I think the decisions are sent out late April.
Wanna share portfilos? I’m curious to how everyone else’s look like!
Hey , I applied to UCLA architecture too for fall 2018 transfer! What is the open house?
They send out an open house invitation around the end of March which is basically an early indication of acceptance. Based off previous years, my prediction is that the invitations are going to be emailed on March 21st.
@Castkyo @iamstillcurious Did you guys want to share portfolios? I’m not sure how my portfolio compares to everyone else that applied.
@Chanel Thanks!! So basically if we get the invitation, we get accepted? Is the 'open house ’ thing only for art majors?
@iamstillcurious The open house is for any majors within the arts and architecture department. It appears that if you get the invitation there’s a 99% chance you’re accepted, as the regular admission team still has to check that you’ve completed requirements like IGETC and at least 60 units.
thanks @Chanel ! 1)So they send out open house invitations starting of March 21st? Or it will only be sent on that day?
2) Also, if we did not get the invitation, can we still get in?
@iamstillcurious I believe the open house invitations will only be sent on March 21st, around 5pm. I’m not 100% sure if they will be sent out that day but based on previous years it appears they send them out on a Wednesday, three weeks before the open house. The open house this year is scheduled to be on April 13th, which implies that the invitations will be sent out on the 21st. Also not receiving an invitation isn’t a rejection. There have been cases in the past where people didn’t receive the letter but were accepted.
@Chanel! Thank you so much! What GPA you assume we can get in? Im so nervous rn
@iamstillcurious When I took a tour of the department they said that you only need a minimum GPA of 3.2. It seems that your admission is mainly decided on the portfolio you submit. I’m nervous also because I’m not confident in my portfolio at all and I have no idea what an accepted portfolio looks like.
@Chanel Basically we know our decisions one month ahead of other departments … What architecture classes have you taken?
@iamstillcurious none at all. I have zero experience in architecture but apparently UCLA doesn’t expect you to have experience. What kind of pieces did you include in your portfolio?
@Chanel I took one design class and one graphic design class. I put in my teenager drawings and my class designs!! What about you?
@iamstillcurious I put in random drawings like figure drawings, portraits and still lifes. If you want I can email you my portfolio.
@Chanel that would be cool, I will give you my email later! So now we are on countdown 2 days right?
@iamstillcurious yeah 2 days, March 21st around 5pm to be exact. PM me your email whenever and I’ll send you my portfolio.
@Chanel So they send out all invitations at 5pm or starting at 5pm?
@iamstillcurious At 5pm. It seems like they’re all sent out at once.
