I'm applying out of state (from Connecticut). UCLA is absolutely my top choice and I sent them a little letter (not sure if they'll read it or just throw it out) just informing them that they're my top school and I'd deposit the second I heard back from them.

Please chance my at:
UCLA
UC Berkeley
Stanford

If you want, you can also do:
Columbia
Cornell
UVa
BC
McGill

Thank you so much!!

PS----------- please note that the UCs are really opening up their doors this year to out of state children because of CAs economic position (apparently they're going to a 30% acceptance of their OOS applicant pool). THANKS AGAIN!

I’m pretty sure homecoming king doesn’t count as a legit award

UCLA, UC Berkeley: i don’t know much about what’s going on this year w/ out-of-state students, but from what i know they would be low reaches, but definitely could happen
Stanford, Columbia: quite possible, but they’re reaches for anyone
Cornell- high match
UVa- match
BC- high match/low reach
McGill- match

well its a recognition on a schoolwide basis. i mean yeah its not an academic award and its not as serious but it still recognizes my school spirit and participation

You have a good shot at the UCs, your SAT is exactly their average, your GPA is a bit above and they indeed need many full pay OOS students this year. I think you also have a decent shot at UVA, McGill and BC.

Stanford, Columbia and Cornell look less likely given scores and ECs.

I’ve never seen anyone who did 4 years of high school in the US take TOEFL.

hahaha thank you but in regards to the toefl im not relying on it heavily it was just that i learned to speak russian before english and i speak it at home, mostly on the phone (other than with friends), so im very invested in my other language. i just wanted to ensure that i still speak english well and everything…

im not relying on it heavily at all

i created this new thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1058003-will-chance-back-please-chance-me-following-shcools.html#post1066137264

(same one. just wanted to let people know im chancing back…post here or there doesnt matter. just let me know if you want to be chanced back! thanks!)

Your scores aren’t that great, to be honest. ECs are really weak (sorry, I’m not trying to be mean or anything). There is nothing that stands out about your application.

UCLA - reach
UC Berkeley - reach
Stanford - high (unlikely) reach
McGill - low-reach, but it might be a reach this year since many internationals are applying. Lots of them have higher scores.

I agree with AstroBlue in that I don’t think being Homecoming King will add anything to your app. It’s nothing impressive or academic-it doesn’t count for anything, let’s be honest.

What is your unweighted GPA? Because schools care more about unweighted than weighted. Your weighted GPA is good, though, and so is course load.

It’s worth applying to any school, no matter who you are and what stats you have. You never know until you try, right? Good luck.

Stanford, Columbia: reachh
Cornell- reach
UVa- match
BC- high match/low reach

idk the rest of them…sorry dude

Rainbow, what are you talking about? He’s got a gold from scholastic… his ECs are fine.

I also think Homecoming King is legitimate. It demonstrates that his peers think highly of him and he’s a well-respected member of his school community, if nothing else.

does anyone else have chances???

Stanford, Columbia: high reach
Cornell- reach (also depends which school you’re applying to)
UVa- match
BC- high match/low reach
McGill- match
sorry don’t know much about UC schools

I’d say you definitely have a shot, but your scores are low for some of these schools. You should get into most of them, but the ivys/stanford are reaches (as they are for anyone). good luck!

chance me back please!

buuuuuuump

Stanford, Columbia - high reaches
Cornell, UC Berkeley - reach
McGill, UCLA - low reach
BC - match

I pretty much agree with RainbowSprinkles - your ECs aren’t the strongest and nothing really stands out a lot. Have you done any community service? Also, do you know what you want to study?
