1) first of all, i was wondering if 20K in loans is too much? i know taking on any loans is unfortunate, but i really want to attend.

2) also, i was added to the spring 2007 list of students for USC, which basically acts as a waitlist. if i get in, which is better overall? USC or UCLA?

3) i want to study business, and i know USC has a business school, ucla doesnt.
ive heard UCLA has a better neighboring area than USC, does this matter?

4) ive heard about USC's crazy alumni connections, but does this matter outside of california? if im planning to move out of cali anyway, i dont know if i want to have graduated from what east coast people know it as "university of south carolina"

5) should i try for umich or nyu even though i really want to study in california?

thanks for responding, i know im asking a lot of questions and in the end, its my decision, but i wanted to see what you all had to say.

2) When you're on a waitlist, you almost never get in...

3) Well, UCLA is in Westwood, and it's considered the safest part of LA. ;)

4) I don't know if USC really has crazy alumni connections, but I am aware of the fact that people that don't pay attention to sports have thought that USC is South Carolina on the East Coast.

5) I don't know much about NYU, but I picked UCLA over Michigan. UCLA has what Michigan has, plus lower tuition (I'm in-state) and better weather. :)

USC and UCLA both have alumni networks outside of california. in terms of quality of the alumni chapters, i think they're about equal, but USC has more chapters than UCLA. if you're looking for the major cities (like new york or washington DC) then you'll find a UCLA alumni chapter there. everyone always talks about USC's networking, and rightfully so, but they forget that if you take the initiative to take advantage of the opportunities at UCLA, you'll also find similar if not the same networking.

For undegraduate business, it's obvious that USC is the better choice. At UCLA, you can study Business Economics but that doesn't compare to an undegrad. business education. Marshall is highly spoken of and very well ranked among top universities.

if you really want to study business, then go to marshall. but dont forget that businesses hire more than just business majors, and USC marshall grads and UCLA biz-econ grads get about the same employment opportunities.

If you want to get a "business" job, unless you LOVE USC or you get some aid/scholarships or if you MUST study business administration then go to UCLA. It will offer you the same employment opportunities, but it is 20k cheaper per year. The USC might help a little tiny bit, but a lot of prominent companies (ibanks) go to UCLA for recruitment. Is $80,000 of debt worth the alumni connections people are talking about? Use that money for the downpayment of your house or if you don't want to do that blow it on an expensive sports car.
