Thought it might be useful to have a place to ask questions about BRUIN day for the class of 2022.
@10s4life Any insights you can provide would be helpful. Thanks!
Bruin Day is packed. Plan as if you were going to Disneyland. Though it starts at 9 getting there by 7:45-8ish is better so you can get parking. The campus is also hard to figure out for the first time too. There will be lots of volunteers to help guide but getting there early is def a good thing to do.
The Bruin day website has a schedule builder. Def do that so you can map out your day and not miss anything. There’s so many things to see and do! A must is the True Bruin Welcome with gene block and the housing tour. Also stop by the dining halls for lunch.
Best place to park?
(From last year’s bruin day experience) As soon as you’re pulling up, there will be volunteers telling you where to park. We arrived not until around 9 or 9:30 AM last year and had no problem parking. They just have volunteers change which lot they direct you too, if the first ones are already full.
I’d probably park in either Lot 8 or 9, which are both off of Westwood Blvd.
What should I bring with me for Bruin Day? Is there anything we NEED to bring?
@peonyplant Nothing specifically. It’ll be warm so wear summer clothes and sunglasses. Bring a water bottle as there will be refilling stations everywhere. A drawstring bag to hold all the free stuff is helpful too.
They usually give you a bag to put all the flyers, swag, etc. in.
Bruin day is fun. Being out of staters (from the Midwest), last year we checked in the night before at Luskin Conference Center, a fabulous hotel in its own right. We got up early and walked to the campus next door. We remember Bruin day to be a happy festive day. That was our first time at UCLA ever, and the visit immediately cemented our decision that this was the school for my daughter. She was deciding between the University of Notre Dame and UCLA at that point, and the sunshine and brightness were key factors in favor of UCLA. Notre Dame is an awesome school with a pretty campus but it can’t beat the whole package of location, vibe, and academics that UCLA offers. There are other kids I’m sure where Notre Dame would be a better fit. It’s all about fit.
Thanks for this thread @sandiegodad2017. We are looking forward to going to Bruin Day!
So where is the best place on campus to buy your UCLA swag? Is there a strategy here to avoid the mass chaos?
@sandiegodad2017 The Ucla campus store will be busy but has the best selection especially if you want the under armour gear. It’s the most expensive option. There is campus store la which is in Westwood in laconte ave I think. It’s much cheaper.
^ thanks!
@sandiegodad2017 Hit the Campus Store on Westwood Blvd on the west side of the street, just below LeConte. Obviously go to the store in Ackerman, but there is some different and good stuff in the one on Westwood Blvd too. And it tends to be less expensive.
@youcee Yeah…thanks for the advice! I have a feeling it’s gonna be an expensive afternoon.
@sandiegodad2017 Haha, it was expensive for us last year too! Do some advance scouting on their website so you have some idea of what you might find.
