Hi guys. I am a recent high school graduate trying to transfer into UCLA business econ. I'm taking summer classes to get ahead in units right now.

If there is anyone that successfully/unsuccessfully transferred into UCLA with this declared major, please tell me your stats.

High School Stats: 3.4 UW/3.7 W
SAT: 2000/2400
Community College Stats(As of now): 4.0. I'm taking 2 classes which I fully intend on getting A's in. I am projecting a 3.8 gpa at minimum by the time I'm able to transfer.
EC: Some sports, some volunteering, some school clubs (very generic EC)

Here's my stats just for fun i guess? Obviously was not a competitive candidate as a freshman coming out of high school.

When transferring to a UC, the thing that really matters is finishing ALL your pre-reqs before the application period (or the spring prior to transferring). Especially when transferring to competitive UC’s like Los Angeles or Berkeley. Personally, I got rejected from UCLA (Business Econ) because I didn’t complete only one pre-req (which was Managerial Accounting) and my GPA was 3.94.

Once you have the pre-reqs done, you have a pretty good chance at getting in, provided you have a high GPA (somewhere above 3.8), a stellar personal statement, and good EC’s. Remember that UCLA is an extremely competitive school on both freshman and transfer levels. You HAVE to make yourself stand out. Try getting involved at your CC. Join their honor’s program, if you think you can maintain your high GPA throughout your time at CC. It will qualify you for TAP (UCLA will give admission priority to CC honors students).

That’s about all the advice I can give you. I am transferring this fall to UCI for Business Econ. Hope this helped. Good luck.

Oh, and here are my stats:
Major: Business Econ
GPA: 3.95 (as of Spring 2013)
Applied to: UCSD, UCLA, UCI, UCSB
Got into: UCSD, UCI, UCSB
ECs: Not much. Crocheted baby hats for hospital, volunteered at library.
Test scores: Didn’t take them.

I get admission from both ucla and ucb.
ucla: business econ, ucb: econ
here are my stats:
Major: Business Econ, econ
GPA: uc:3.89, all class: 3.91 (as of Spring 2013)
Applied to: UCSD, UCLA, UCI, UCB, UCD
Got into: all
ECs: only two, job experience and church volunteer.
Test scores: Didn’t take them…

High school stats don’t matter when you’re transferring so I won’t post mine.
I wanted to get into ucla for biz econ just like you and wanted to spend as little time at a CC as possible. From the very moment I graduated high school (which was a semester early), I began planning all the classes I would need to take before transferring and I figured out all the grades I would need to be able to maintain the 3.92 average admitted GPA. Please note that other applicants were accepted with even higher GPAs than this. I never took counselors’ advice because I have had multiple counselors at my cc tell me the wrong information (i.e. they told me the wrong number of classes to take for UCLA TAP, etc.) so I never trusted my counselors. I am not telling you not to meet with a counselor, because you definitely should… just be weary of what they tell you and triple check everything.
As for the classes I took at CC, I placed into calculus when I first got there but decided to start from Trig again because there were some things in high school I never really “got.” I was ahead in math in high school - took calc ab my junior year and then stats senior year (never took calc bc). I also placed into the higher english course at my cc so I only had to take two english classes to satisfy igetc.
I think I only took four classes at most each semester (maybe I took five one semester) and I took only one class over summer (I wanted to take two but the other one filled up too fast). So, it is very possible to take a moderate load and still finish in two years if you plan it all out right. Planning is the most important thing when transferring. I constantly changed my planned courses. And I didn’t just plan for the year, I planned for the whole two years I would be spending at cc. Make sure to check igetc every year because it changes sometimes.
Also, try to take online classes when you can! These were a huge time saver for me especially since I don’t like being in a classroom! But, only take them if you are good at balancing your time and keeping up with a class on your own. I even took my advanced english course online.
What I would suggest you do is make sure you finish all of the pre-reqs for the biz econ major (you can find these on the assist.org website). UCLA is really keen on their applicants finishing pre-reqs - even missing one prereq will basically put you out of the running for admission. So finish those! And try to get As in those!
Definitely finish igetc too! UCLA prefers students that finish igetc - now, they DO accept some students that have not finished their igetc, but they would rather have you finish it. Do it.
Now for my stats…
I had a 3.8 gpa a little low, but things don’t always go as you plan. Aim for a 4.0 and you’ll be fine as long as you keep up with it! Also, ratemyprofessor.com is your best friend. Use the **** out of that site. I tried getting the easiest teachers I could get so I’d have a better chance of getting an A. I do like to challenge myself, but when it comes to my future and the possibility of not being accepted into UCLA because I had a dick teacher, I would rather play it safe and save the challenging classes for when I get to UCLA.
Extracurriculars- from what I have read, UCLA is not big on extracurriculars for transfers at least. The main things are completion of prereqs and your GPA. But some extracurriculars do help!!
I was in one club at my cc and I started a small accounting club at my cc too. I also worked for my dad and did the accounting for his small business. That was about it for extracurriculars… I did mention a few community service things I think- only if I was in a top position.

Now, for the big part, I was NOT accepted to UCLA at first… I appealed and somehow got in! This just shows how competitive the school and this major is… you have to get a 4.0 GPA and even some people with that gpa aren’t accepted… UCLA wants to see if you are a good fit for their school - so the personal statement does play a small part in your acceptance. I suggest you look up what UCLA looks for in their students. I came across a website that said UCLA looks for Leadership, Improvement, and Commitment. I included all of these attributes in my appeal letter and I believe that is how I got in. I think I was a borderline applicant and once I showed them I belonged at UCLA, they decided to accept me.
Oh, also I was not a TAP applicant! That would’ve helped but I could never find any honors courses at my cc! They usually only had a few and they were classes I did not need at all and I wouldn’t have had enough honors courses to qualify for TAP by the time I transferred. So, I just didn’t do it.
If you have any other questions PM me! I remember how badly I wanted to get into UCLA and I would’ve loved some guidance. Unfortunately, I spent hours and hours …and hours… researching all of the requirements and classes, etc. I would need to be accepted.
Good luck!!

@orange283 I have no ECs and i BS my essay(7/10), but i have a 3.95 gpa(major gpa 4.0) and finished calc 3 last semester(pre req: calc 2). Worth a shot i guess?
