Im currently a HS student from california and am planning on going to UCLA to major in Business Econ. After HS my goal is to go to my local CC to do my 2 years of general studies and transfer to UCLA using the TAP. My question is i noticed the restrictions on the UCLA page which are;

Transfer applicants should note that demand for this major significantly exceeds space available at the transfer level.

Applicants are admitted to pre-major status until prerequisites are satisfactorily completed.

Transfer students who are admitted to a major outside the Department of Economics are not permitted to transfer into one of the economics majors.

can someone please explain to me exactly what they mean? thanks ahead of time

Admissions standards are higher for Econ students. You will more likely be rejected as a transfer applicant by choosing this major!!!

You start off as a “pre-major”. You must maintain a certain GPA at UCLA after taking a number of courses to declare Econ or Bus Econ as your major. While most people make Econ, the standards are high enough that a sizable number of people are unable to declare Bus Econ as their major. Those who don’t make the cut switch their majors into something else.

Some transfer students realize that Econ admissions are tougher and so they will attempt to take advantage of the system by applying as an undeclared major and then switching into the Econ major later. This is telling you you can’t do that. You’re either accepted or rejected into the Econ department.

WOW! Excellent explaination.

Maybe you can help me next time I talk to my doctor or lawyer :)
