UCLA buziecon vs UCB econ

First question....

I want to study business, but I have little hope for Haas. Would econ be okay for my undergrad and study business in MBA?

Second..

comments on UCLA buziecon vs UCB econ???

Third...

I have 3.8 GPA with outstanding ECs, internship, etc. Should I try for Haas or stay safe with their econ major?

PLEASE HELP X(

1.) You don't have to major Business to get into MBA. Econ is an excellent choice of major as undergrad in prep. for MBA in the future. In fact, many people recommend you major Econ over Business if you plan to do MBA because then you will have solid foundation of background in economic theories and principles to help you understand Business.

2.) There has been numerous threads concerning this:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=289717&highlight=UCLA+BizEcon+Berkeley+Econ%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=289717&highlight=UCLA+BizEcon+Berkeley+Econ</a></p>

Please take time to read through the above thread. It's long, I know but it'll help answer most your questions/

3.) Your choice. Haas can be reach for anyone with a 4.0 GPA with outstanding ECs, but you might be the lucky one.

u should just major in econ at berkeley

so dhl3, where did you go and with what major?

robert mcnamara studied econ at cal, got an mba from hahvahd, and went on to be secretary of defense , president of ford, AND head of the world bank.

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_McNamara%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_McNamara</a></p>

I went to UCLA with BizEcon major.

Go with what you want to learn, as while the subjects are fairly different, the employment prospects aren't. I'd venture to say that they might be a little bit better for UCLA, since certain employers will go to the bus. econ majors first, while they might go to haas students first at berkeley, but that's just conjecture.

dhl3 did u get accepteed to UCB econ also? with what GPA?

I got 3.8 gpa with B's in econ1/cal1, but A's in econ2/cal2. Im in pretty bad shape for UCB econ right?

No you still are a competitive candidate. If you have a 3.7 or above you are a good candidate but definitely not a shoe in. However people with excellent GPA's have also been denied.

skoo, yeah i got into Cal's Econ as well.
My GPA was a 3.85 with a B in Calculus I, and A's on rest of the prerequisites.

If you can get in, go to UCLA BizEcon. Cal's Econ dept is a mess. In fact the whole school is inefficient. Contrary to popular belief, I do think that the UCLA program is more competitive. It's just a more attractive place to go to school.

Not quite sure what you are saying. Care to explain to us about your experience as Cal Econ student?

"Experience" is such a broad umbrella term, dhl3. It would take way too much time to write down ALL of the BS I've had to put up with these past 2 years. Also, do you want to hear about why Cal Econ is jacked to hell, or how Cal as a whole sucks major arse?

Here's a lovely anecdote though: My first semester at Cal I had a dreadful professor and was worried about it. I went to visit the Econ advisor before she retired, and she told me that it was alright for me to just pass my classes and get Cs all the way through because "employers normally don't see your transcripts anyways." I'm recruiting right now and, thankfully, I didn't follow her advice. ALL of the best jobs want your transcripts, count on it.

tell us more please.

Cal sucks balls, period.

whoa.. take it easy guys
