Also waitlisted for a prospective major in the classics…does anyone know when the waitlist stats for this year will be released?
@merrbear17 In the Waitlist FAQ it said that UCLA would release the stats after the May 1 SIR deadline.
Don’t lose hope. My friend got into undeclared engineering oos from the waitlist.
GOT USC AND ALL OTHER UC’S BUT WAITLISTED BY UCLA~
Hi guys, I have finally registered as I’ve been lurking for awhile now. My son was waitlisted at UCLA and has been accepted to UCD, UCSD, UCI and UCSB. He is waiting on UCB tonight. Any insights into what he should write on his waitlisted essay? As most of the waitlisted students, he has his heart set on UCLA and I want to give him the best chance possible to get accepted. Thanks for your time.
@CaDadof3: he needs to write about any new and compelling information that was not originally presented in his application and why he should be considered for an acceptance over all the other qualified applicants on the waitlist. What does UCLA offer over the other schools he has been accepted?
Thanks for the reply, Gumbymom. I have read a lot of your posts and really appreciate the help you provide. To be honest, his godfather was an UCLA alum and ever since middle school, UCLA was his #1 pick. In fact, the reason why he did so well in high school was because he had one thing on his mind, getting into UCLA. I suppose UCLA doesn’t offer a lot over the other schools he’s been accepted to. I have never pondered that question, but I can see why you asked it. I don’t believe he wrote about the languages that he knows (fluent in Spanish and a bit of Korean) in his essays. I’m just racking my brains in order to give him the best possible chance to get off the waitlist.
@CaDadof3: I wish your son the best of luck and I think Luck has a lot do with getting off the waitlist.
Thank you. I agree, luck most certainly has a lot to do with it!
Well what do you know, he got into Cal!! This takes the sting out of the waitlist at UCLA, but he’s still hopeful for admission.
@CaDadof3: Congratulations to your son.
I got waitlisted at Berkeley as well! ~X( Honestly, what is going on with admissions this year!? The wait until May is going to be long and brutal… 8-} good luck everyone.
@need2go2UCLA same!! Waitlisted to both AND nyu. Two waitlists in one day is too much for me
waitlisted… does anyone seem to know the conditions of admission for UCLA?
if you’re talking about waitlist conditions, there aren’t any! aside from filling (optional) out the box for extra information by april 15th, it’s just a big waiting game.
on another note, it appears oos applicants have a slightly higher chance at admission than in-state applicants ( at least from the looks of last year’s thread. )
@lilavocado What I meant was the actual conditions of admission for UCLA for those who were already accepted… do you happen to know them?
Got waitlisted too.
Here are my status:
International
new SAT 1520 (essay7/5/5)
SAT2 Math Level 2 800
Chemistry 760
Physics 740
TOEFL 110
I only decided to attend college in the U.S. at the end of 11th grade so there was no time for AP tests and I only attended all tests above once.
I have filled out the application basically on myself and when I got waitlisted and showed my app to my counselor he was like OMG you did terrible in the extracurricular part…So I’m kinda happy I didn’t just get declined hhhhhhh( btw, this means hahahaha. Don’t know if you guys use this in the US too
So I guess I’ll use my 7000 words to redo my extracurricular description.
BTW, the score in China is kinda weird so I’ve been told there’s no GPA for me.
@gavarno88:
You need to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 unweighted Senior year, no more than 2 C’s and no D’s or F’s. You need to abide by the deadline for your final HS transcripts and make sure all self-reported grades/courses match your transcript.
Does anyone think my son should mention the schools he got into (UCD, UCSD, UCI, UCSB, UCB) in his waitlisted essay or will that somehow backfire on him?
As much as I love Cal, I feel that his heart belongs to UCLA. I understand that chances are slim to get off the waitlist, but I definitely want to give him the best possible shot. I just wish he felt the same for Cal as he does for UCLA as I’d be extremely proud of him for attending Cal.
