UCLA>CAL what is your reason?

I am deciding wether to tell my parents cal's decision or not. They almost like "force me" to go berkeley if I were admitted tomorrow. I totally understand,it has a higher ranking. However, UCLA has been a dream in my mind for a long time. Not only the campus, but also the city. I just simply want to go where I want to go. I don't want studying is the only thing I will do for next two years. Should I just tell them I were rejected by CAL regardless the decision upcoming tomorrow? Any of you guys have the same situation? I really appreciate that!

Don’t lie. Tell your parents how you really feel. Remind them that UCLA is a world-class school, and that you’ll likely do better there, since you’ll be happier.

Westwood! Should be much safer than Berkeley, IMO.

I’m in the same exact situation, but their reason revolves more around money issue. I’m from the bay, so going to UCB could save me more money than going to UCLA. How can I convince my parents that going to UCLA isn’t so bad?

Notes to consider:
Chinese Parents.
Chinese Major.
Blue & Gold Opportunity Plan for UCLA.
They think UC Berkeley is the best college.
Save money.

Don’t lie to your parents. They are pushing for berkeley because they want what they think is best for you. Approach their concerns head on. Emphasize that UCLA is a seriously good school. Probably tie in wanting to work in Southern California and how UCLA can ease that transition and aid in finding a job in the area. If that isn’t the case then try something like that! good luck

Just make sure you get this across to your parents, “CHILL… I GOT THIS!” But in a parent friendly way.

UCLA receives more applications than UCB.
UCLA is located in a better area than UCB.
UCLA has a larger alumni network.
UCLA doesn’t have the liberal stigma - some employers are turned off by the liberal reputation of UCB.
Many students choose UCLA over UCB.
Too much pot smoking at UCB.
UCLA is where you will be happy.

Both schools are top notch and excel in their own regards.

Just highlight the merits of UCLA and why it is better for you. Depending on your major (you said Chinese, not sure if that meant language studies or a stereotypical Chinese major) you can make the argument that UCLA is better for some particular area that you want to study even if its not higher ranked than UCB overall.

Also, both schools are located in deep blue counties so they’re both about as liberal as it gets but I’m not sure why political affiliations should concern employers to begin with.
