UCLA Chance Thread

EDIT: Sorry if the title is confusing, I realized that after hitting the submit button. I'm asking for my chances on getting into UCLA, thanks.

So my community college is very small. It only has a couple of thousand of students (I'd guess circa 2500-3000) so we don't have an honors program (no TAP). Because my school is so small and located near UCSC, few students matriculate to UCB/UCLA every year. Regardless it's an AWESOME community college, almost all my teachers are way overqualified and have amazing work experience. They really rock, I just pray that the professors at whichever school I end up are at least half as good as these guys.

Anyhow, this year our college hired new personnel to help us with the UC transfer process and understand how UCs make their decision. They have access to the stuff we submitted to the UCs and can see our personal statements/self-reported grades and etc.

As a result, I found out my UC transferable GPA was a bit lower than I had originally predicted. My cumulative is a 3.83, but because I took some non-transferable courses, it went down. Here are my stats

Major: Biz Econ
Cumulative GPA: 3.83
Transferable GPA: 3.77
Pre-Req/Major GPA: 4.0
Cumulative Units (after Spring): 104
Transferable Units (prior to Spring 09) 78
Transferable Units (after Spring) 93
Pre-Reqs Completed: Yes, all pre-reqs completed by Fall 08. Have also completed Multivariable Calc and D.E. Also took calc-based physics series (did for fun). All A's
IGETC Completed: Yes, will be completed by Spring 09
TAP: No
Essays: Hard to judge. In one I talked about how I graduated highschool earlier (I am currently 17) and how I had to surpass my peers and etc. In the other about one's major I talked about leadership. Both prompts were around 300 words only, so about 600-650 words total.
Work Experience: Tutor at CC.
Awards: Dean's List.
EC: President of Alpha Gamma Sigma last year. Retired member now. Our school doesn't have an active PTK, the club has had no members for years now. I also included physical activities (e.g. weightlifting),

I'm a bit worried now because my GPA is lower than last year's average. My prompt word count was also a lot shorter than 1000 words. So yea, chances?

I honestly think you have a very good chance. I think your stats are way better than mine...did you apply to UCSD?

7/10 ookkk

Thanks for the input so far. Also, I did apply to UCSD and UCSB; however, I haven't heard anything from them yet :(.

Any other opinions? I'm really bummed that the transferable GPA fell under 3.8. I heard that was the "cut-off" GPA for biz econ so yea. When I was estimating my transferable GPA, I forgot that c/nc classes aren't included in your units count. So yea, major downer.

My transferrable GPA is like 3.9-ish, maybe even around 3.8, but I'm English major...if that helps. :?

3.9 is really good for english, if you have prereqs done your chance is even greater. for biz econ, i think you're close to the average but the 600 word essay does not look good if they look closely at it unless its well written. but then again you're 17 and i think you've shown through your grades that you have a really good shot. 17? how so early?

Well, for me, I didn't pay attention to the recommended pre-reqs...there were a LOT for UCSD that I didn't take (only this semester I began taking lit courses) but I got in. For UCB they only "suggest" Shakespeare, which I am currently taking. Not too sure for UCLA, though, which is where I really want to get in.

Both OP and I are 17, having started CC early instead of taking the HS route.

you are in bro. i had about the same stats as you and got into biz/econ.
