Hi CC!
UCLA is my dream school and I hope I get in although it's extremely competitive now, can anyone chance me? Here are my stats

UC GPA: 3.61
UC Weighted GPA: around a 3.8
ACT: 32
Class Rank: top 12%
AP Classes: Calc AB (5), Psych (4), APUSH (4), Lang (3), Bio (4), World History (4) - currently taking Calc BC, APES, Lit, and Gov
Accolades: National Merit Commended, AP Scholar w Distinction
EC: We The People, NHS, Key Club, Orchestra, Varsity Tennis, 200+ Volunteer hours at Hospital, Library, and Indian Events
I'm out of state and want to apply for Bio as my major.

Are you prepared to pay full fees? As an OOS student you need to consider costs and California does not give Financial Aid to OOS students. Your ACT of 32 is okay but most students accepted by UCLA, in impacted majors, have higher ACTs.

Average UC GPA for Freshman 2014 was 4.23 or fully weighted 4.39. Your ACT is in range but your GPA is low by UCLA standards. Write great essays and hope for the best.

UCLA: Reach

Does UCLA focus a lot on GPA for admissions?

The UC’s weigh GPA more heavily than test scores if you look at past admission threads. Although neither of my sons applied to UCLA, based on their GPA’s, the higher the better for UC acceptances. UCLA/UCB and UCSB have shown they are more holistic in the admission decisions so outstanding essays and EC’s will factor into their acceptances. All you can do is apply and since what happens.

DS was admitted to UCLA with a 4.0, Hugh SAT, good essays and tons of ECs.

^^^ “high SAT”^^. He also was in-state.

2013 stats for ACT Overall averages

applicants = 27 admits = 30 enrolled = 28

32 is fine ACT score especially at UCLA. While some have higher, many kids don’t and with ACT higher than 32 many will go to an elite school, not a large public one. The UC GPA is more of a concern, not the ACT.

I see, thanks guys!
