UCLA Chances

Hello,

So I am a 25 year old male who initially attended CC right out of high school in 2008 but things didn’t go so well. I started to severely lose focus and my grades reflected. I ended up stopping in 2011 with a 1.83 ( which I was so embarrassed about) and after about four years of random life events I went back to a different CC and decided to get everything back on track. I have managed to bring my Cumulative GPA up to a 2.57 with one more semester to finish before transferring. I have also had some of my previous bad grades reversed. I have always dreamed of going to UCLA for communications which I know I would do great at now that I am older and more focused. On the application I wrote a moving personal statement and explained my full time work while full time student details. My GPA solely at my current institution is a 3.35, but all together it goes down

Do you think they will somehow look at my improvements and the hard work I have done and overlook my Cumulative GPA to somehow admit me?

What is your total transferable GPA, not including non-transferable courses or the courses you got cleared via academic renewal?

UCLA will only look at your UC transferable gpa (so if you took a bunch of classes for a major they don’t offer it doesn’t get taken into account) I’ve been told that UC’s really take your essay into account so you never know! I’m also a Comm major and was told they only really care about your most recent work. UCLA Communications is a very heavily impacted major with serious competition…75% of last year’s transfers had a 4.0. You should be able to see last year’s stats on UCLA’s site. Have you talked to a counselor to see if all of your poor work will actually get taken into account?

My total transferable GPA comes to a 2.8 when averaged. =/ so I’m hoping everything else makes it far better. everything i have counted is what can be transferred over. I have high hopes though!
