Going to get a job during the summer
140 hours community service at a local food bank

Also, I plan on taking online summer classes to potentially replace my 3 Bs I got first semester. Will USC or UCLA be able to see that during admission? I know we self report grades, so do we have to report that we did summer classes.

UCLA as already updated their freshman decision portals. Go online and check if you got in or not.

he’s a junior he plans to apply next year did you even read the post @Ranger158

UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Since you are OOS, only AP/IB or DE courses count for the extra honors points in the calculation. Also UCLA will look at your unweighted, the capped UC weighted (link given) and the uncapped UC weighted (unlimited honors points for 10-11th grade AP/IB or DE courses). Classes taken prior to 12 th grade (summer before) will be included in your GPA calculation and should be reported on the UC application.

Since you are OOS, just be aware that the UC’s no longer offer financial aid however, they do offer some merit aid scholarships, but expect to pay at the minimum $23K/year up to full pay $55K/year to attend if accepted. Make sure your parents are fully on board with you applying.

So far you look like a competitive applicant, but since GPA and test scores are only part of the application review, it is difficult to chance anyone. Definitely worth an application and Good Luck.

Guess I didn’t lol

I’m no expert by any means, but I got accepted to UCLA this year.

I think you have a decent shot, but I’ll provide some anecdotal perspective and suggestions.

UCLA seems like a school that rejects students that are strong academically, but not necessarily well rounded. Their average scores are relatively lower compared to other top colleges. I have a friend that goes to the same school as me and our admissions decisions were identical until the UCLA decisions released. I got in, but he didn’t.
Our grades were pretty much the same. In terms of tests scores, our SAT scores were comparable. He only took it once and got a 2190. I took it 3 times with a superscore of 2220, but my highest single score was 2140. I didn’t take the ACT, but he got a 35!
I think the difference maker was the fact that I was slightly more well rounded. Don’t get me wrong. He was on the swim team for 4 years, robotics 4 years, band 4 years, etc. But he didn’t have any leadership positions. I also took the initiative to cram in a class at JHU and shadowing over my junior year summer.

My personal advice for you now, considering you’re a junior, is try to procure some sort of definitive leadership position by senior year. Heck, you could probably spin the robotics mentoring thing into “Programming Team Lead” or something of that nature. Anything that you can put on your application that would look more “official.” During your summer break, try to go above and beyond. Take a college class or shadow an engineer or any other profession that would interest you. Don’t worry, you’ll still have time to visit colleges and other stuff. Maintain your grades. They’re very good. You’re 80% done. Fine tune what’s left and don’t sweat what can’t be changed. You’ll be fine.

My app info:
I’m from Maryland, so I was also dealing with the out-of-state struggle.

My grades aren’t as good as your’s. I have a 3.8 unweighted. (4.4 weighted)

2220 superscore, comprised of two 2140s and a 2130. (No ACT, In hindsight I probably should have tried.)
800 Math II, 730 Bio E, 730 Chem

ECs:
Wrestling (2 years captain, 3 years varsity, 4 years total)
Computer club (2 years president, 4 years total)
Robotics (4 years)
Freshmen mentoring program (3 years)
NHS (2 years)
Tutoring (2 years)
About 150 hours of community service

Other boosts:
Coauthored a medical paper
Took an undergrad class at JHU over the summer (It was a real undergrad class. Granted, not a super rigorous one, but I got an official Hopkins transcripts that I sent in my apps)
Shadowed a pediatrician over the summer

I had some really passionate essays. (Some may call my personal essay a sob story.)

Good chance. High match/Low reach. Make sure to really do well this semester.

I see no Visual/Performing art course on your list. This is a UC requirement of 1 year. If you do not meet the a-g course requirements, then my application will not be considered.

http://www.ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/

Although you will have 2 Chem and Physics class, I see no Biology. Even though your intended major is Engineering, a Biology class is usually considered standard on applying to most schools. I also agree you are a little light on the AP courses, especially if your fellow HS classmates are taking advantage with more than 7.

At the end of Junior year, calculate your UC GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Compare your stats to the UCLA averages and if you want an acceptance for Engineering, you need to above the averages.

I passed on a lot of AP Classes, which I feel is my biggest problem in getting to UCLA. I want to apply as an engineering major, so I did not feel the relevance in taking AP classes such as AP Lang.
