UCLA: Change of proposed major?

So I applied to UCLA as an English major. I am planning on added on Communication Studies as a double major. I've talked to the COMS department and have been told I would not find out until a year later if I could get accepted into Communication Studies. I've realized that it would have been a lot easier to get accepted into Communication Studies and then add on English (easier in terms of doing my double major, not getting in).

I've also come to realize that I only need one more class to fulfill all the prereqs for Communication Studies, Intro to Sociology, which I am taking this coming Summer. I didn't complete my English foreign language requirement, but am also done with all the pre-reqs with the exception of that requirement.

I am going to call the school and ask them personally, but I'm wondering what you guys think about the possibility of asking them to change my intended major for Fall. I talked a lot about English and communication in general on my app, but I definitley focused on my love for literature. I do NOT want to just get into communications and not do English, so that's also important to me. I'd rather do English than communication studies honestly. However, in terms of doing both majors, I think it would be easier to apply for Communication Studies. My only worry is how much I talked about literature in my application is going to appear as a proposed communication studies major.

Ugh, any advice? Thanks :)

Don’t worry about it now. Wait until you’re admitted, and then call them up to ask if you can double major in Comm. Studies. If you ask around and rally hard enough, I guarantee you’ll be able to double major. The only thing is, they may make you wait a year (for whatever reason) considering Comm. is so impacted/capped.
