Is it possible to get into another discussion section once class starts?
I'm taking chem 14a lecture 1, and i really want another discussion section rather than the one i'm enrolled in. i want section 1D but i'm in 1J

also on bruinwalk, people say the ta really matters
how do you get a good ta?

and is it really true that chem 14a lecture 2 or 3 has better curves?

thanks!

You can go talk to some of the TAs in person to see if they’ll let you enroll in their section (you’ll need to request a PTE (petition to enroll)). And TAs are important, but honestly, you should be able to learn just fine without them. Oh and yes, the later lectures do have better curves.

well, the most curve you will ever get in 14A/B with lavelle is 2% probably. he never downcurves. so i suppose the later lectures do have a slight better curve. the 10 am had a tiny one when i took 14A. the 12 pm 14B class i took had like 2.

unless you have quizzes, discussion is not mandatory, and you can usually go to whatever discussion you want.

yea but there are 3 quizzes + 3 days that you get the quizzes back = 6/10 days that you need/should go to (might be 5 because i think the 2nd and 3rd quiz are consecutive). you cant really discussion hop until 14C.

ehh i had no quizzes in 14B, so i could’ve discussion hopped (i didn’t, but my friend did). yeah but i guess in that case discussion would be more mandatory, unless you decided not to pick up the quizzes/request a separate time to pick them up or something

so would you guys all recommend changing from chem 14a lecture 1 to lecture 3 because of the easier curve?

The intensity of the curve isn’t really enough to switch lectures, honestly. If you really would like to though, go for it. I do know a couple people who went from B+ to A- because of the curve… You can also just sign up for the later lecture, but still sit in on the 10 am lectures if you want.

but i heard that they supposedly have id checks in lavelles lectures

is the id check really strict?

well, you’d have to take your test in your specific lecture, because that’s when they check your ID. otherwise, you can go to another lecture, as long as it’s with the same teacher.

no they sometimes check your schedule to see if youre in the correct lecture. most people go to the 10 am lecture for some reason, and it gets overfilled. they only checked once during my 14a experience. its not a regular basis thing…he will announce it if they are going to check.

what happens if you’re not in the right lecture when they do check?

if its not a big deal then i’m just going to switch my lectures now

thanks for all the responses =)
