I got accepted too…
hope for the best for those rejected…(i got rejected from cornell, deferred from u of mich ann arbor, and waitlisted for washu in st.louis…SIGH)

I was about become super super depressed…but UCLA saved me…

Woot! Congrats everyone! I’m so happy for you all!

ACCEPTED! Pre-econ

Personal stats:
1950 SAT, 3.8 UW GPA, 4.2 UC GPA
800french, 670lit, 650math2
top 3%, very committed to extracurriculars, lots of community service, genuine essays.

The admissions office does take a very holistic approach to reviewing an application. Numbers are important, but you also need to show them that you are a REAL and genuine person with interests and goals.

^It’s not. Is 5300 the number of freshmen at UCLA?

UCLA usually accepts at LEAST twice as many people as they expect to actually matriculate (accept the offer and attend the school) to their school.

^
One of my friend’s got rejected from UCLA.
This is what he got:

“After careful review of your application for admission, we regret to inform you that we are not able to offer you admission for the Fall Quarter 2011. UCLA continues to receive more applications for admission than we can accommodate in our freshman class. For fall 2011, we received more than ** 61,000 applications for 5,300 available spaces** for freshmen.”

I think they expect no more than 5300 accepted applicants to actually go to UCLA. They always accept a lot more than this number though, in order to compensate for that. If they offered admission to only 5300 applicants and needed to fill a class of 5300, they would be in trouble because many of those applicants are going to decide to go elsewhere.

accepted!
I can’t believe I can get into UCLA with a such bad stat.!!!

Number of freshmen students is NOT equal to the number of students they admit. There’s something called a yield rate.

I’m pretty sure UCLA’s yield rate is less than 50%, so in order to fill the freshman class of 5300 they would need to accept at least 10000 students.

Same thing with very top schools. Although Harvard has a pretty high yield rate they accept a bit more than 2000 students for a class of 1600 or so.
