Schools were you accepted/waitlisted to?: Accepted by University of Iowa, deferred by Yale.
Schools you are waiting for?: Brown, NYU, Wellesley, Columbia, Berkeley, Yale.
Schools you were rejected from?: None so far.

General Comments: SUPER EXCITED OMG, can’t wait to meet you all!

@JuicyMango You must have applied to Comp Sci or tough Engineering Major. Don’t feel too bad because my kid got rejected from a Non-STEM, non-competitive (relatively speaking) major. Maybe they rejected you because they knew you were not going to come to UCLA even if they accepted you. lol 40+ kids get into UCLA from his school every year, and he was top 20 in his class, a NMF, speaks multiple languages, has over 300 volunteer hours, selected to participate in several national Scholarship Programs, good essays (similar to the ones he sent Stanford), great ECs related to his intended major, was the only one accepted to Stanford/Harvard so far from his high school so far – and still got rejected by UCLA. Go figure that out. I would say for his intended major, he was strong candidate for every college.

The only reason I can think of for his rejection is that in his two blogs which he specifically mentioned and provided specific links in his UCLA essays, he posted that he is going to attend Stanford. No idea whether UCLA admission reviewer saw that.

ACCEPTED
Major:Pre-math/Applied Sciences
ACT:23 GPA:3.5 Out of State !!!
I’m as shocked as you are. My stats are probably the bottom 1% lol
but I GOT IN!!!

@websensation Your kid sounds absolutely amazing, he was definitely rejected because UCLA doesn’t believe he would actually end up going to their school and blessing their presence. I just don’t see how one could get accepted to Stanford/Harvard but not a much less selective school like UCLA. Unfortunately, the best school I have gotten into so far is UCSD (which is a good school, not trying to put it down), so it would have been nice to have been accepted to UCLA.

I also go to a school where around 30 kids get in, and I do believe I am at least at the caliber of the other students that were accepted, so I was pretty disappointed that UCLA didn’t even waitlist me. I applied for chemistry…maybe it was really competitive this year?

Anyway, thank you for your kind words. There’s still awesome schools I’m waiting for, so hopefully I can get into at least one of them. If not, then I’m more than happy to become a Triton :).

@Alisonalvarado I don’t mean to put you down, but your post really makes me depressed. I worked so hard as an IN-STATE and couldn’t get in. But I’m sure you obviously had great EC’s/Essays so you deserve it. Congrats :).

I’m sorry to hear that but if you read my application perhaps you would understand. I still hope that you get into your other schools! Good luck! @JuicyMango
