@youcee So he didn’t get an invitation?
No, didn’t get one
I’m assuming Regeant’s emails aren’t being sent out today?? I haven’t seen anyone who’s gotten one.
Perhaps @“UCLA Alumni Scholarships” who posted a few times last year would be willing to explain how the email list is determined.
@youcee Like perfect gpa and SAT score?? Or near? That doesn’t make sense. I think it does have to do with choosing what scholarships you wanted to be considered for.
@JuicyMango Perfect UW gpa and higher SAT than some I’ve seen posted that got the invite.
@youcee How about the UC gpa though? If it is indeed based on GPA, it’s probably based on UC GPA.
@youcee yep, all seems pretty random to me. theres definitely more to it than just stats.
@JuicyMango I agree. It seems as though they look at a variety of factors, ranging from promising stats to leadership and community service. I received the email and my stats are pretty good, but I also have a lot of leadership and service. Maybe that contributes to getting an invitation email?
I really don’t think the alumni invitation is that meaningful or indicative.
^ It doesn’t really mean much whether you got it or not. Regents, on the other hand, is to believed much more indicative, though that’s not a guarantee either.
@VenomBuds Really? Regents isn’t a guarentee? I didn’t know that. Seems like it be a pretty big blow to get a regents invitation and then not get into the university.
@LindsayHarvard Yep, it’s not a guarantee, but your chances are very good if you get it. It’s more of a guarantee at UC Berkeley from what I’ve heard.
My S got this email. Does this mean he is going to be admitted?
Thank you for applying to the Electrical Engineering Department at UCLA, which has been consistently ranked among the best in the world. Your application is currently under consideration by the admissions committee. One of our current Fast Track students will contact you via phone to describe his/her experience in the program and answer any questions that you have regarding the program, the EE department, residential life at UCLA or anything else. Please indicate your interest by replying to this e-mail so that we can reserve a spot for you in this prestigious program.
While admission decisions have not yet been finalized, we recognize the extraordinary talent and ability you have presented in your application. Final decisions will be released by UCLA Undergraduate Admission in late March. Once these decisions have been released, we very much look forward to welcoming you in the Fall 2016 at UCLA.
Yes. My understanding is that only Admissions can say yes and send the admit letter, so all other departments have to tiptoe around the absolute answer, but I bet you can take this as he’s in. Same thing happened to my student. She got invited for the Regents Scholarship interview way before her admit letter and the above was the reason. She is a Regents’ and Chancellor’s scholar currently by the way at UCB.
@vkrishnan4 I agree with preppedparent, we saw the same kind of wording on a Regents letter from UCSB weeks before admissions went out.
Sounds like a great opportunity!
Congrats to you / your S @vkrishnan4 ! That looks to be very exclusive and a great opportunity. I can only imagine being able to have MS in only 5 years.
D just received an email “Regents Scholarship Invitation”. Does this mean she will be admitted?
Yep, Regents emails just went out. D got hers, too. If you get one, note there isn’t a lot of time to get the application in and I’m pretty sure it requires a recommendation, too. I think the date is 2/17 to get everything in on time.
^^I have to think yes. My 2 students both got into UCLA and UCB, but only one got invited to the Regents interviews @ UCB.
