@jlevi22 No, the admissions committee is completely separate from the scholarship one. They won’t even know that you didn’t do it, they just referred you to the scholarship because they thought you were qualified. It won’t affect anything if you don’t apply for the scholarship.
Did anyone receive a confirmation e-mail after submitting their Alumni Scholarship application?
I didn’t
who else is super excited to have gotten the email? i’m out of state so i didn’t think i would even have a close chance to be admitted here. i know i haven’t been guaranteed admission, but i’m still feeling a bit more relieved
@allima same here. I’m oos too, and I felt like my act and gpa were mediocre for ucla. Im hoping my sat subject tests, ECs, and personal insight questions made me stand out enough to make a difference!
@allima yeah I’m extremely excited! Though I’m also scared that I will be one of those 20% of students who got the email but get rejected. My GPA and SAT are pretty strong, but my ECs are so-so.
I’m an OOS student w/ >4.0 UC GPA and 1460 SAT I. I see a lot of people saying if you received the regents or alumni scholarship emails you have upwards of a 60% chance of admission, (regents like 90% chance). I have received neither. Is this a bad sign? Is no news bad news or simply no news?
@potus2044 I read on last year’s thread that 4% and 1% of applicants receive the alumni and regents scholarship, respectively. And since roughly 18% of the 100,000+ applicants are eventually admitted to ucla, there are still so many who are accepted that never received either scholarship invitation
I think that 1 % and 4 % refer to the number of applicants who actually receive the respective scholarships. I believe people on this post were wondering whether merely being invited to apply for the same is inficative of possible acceptance.
@kibbles oh yes that’s what I meant. I should’ve been more clear sorry lol
I think it’s 1percent receive the invite for reagents and 4 percent receive the invite for the alumni scholarship because only like 100 people receive the scholarships
does anyone know how they choose the winners of the alumni scholarship? i received the email telling me to apply but wanted to know what they base their decisions off of. do most recipients of the scholarship get it because of stats or because of the essays written for the app? still debating whether to do it and if i should even spend time on it if i’m unlikely to receive it… any insight would be great!!
I got the alumni scholarship email the first time they sent them out. My GPA is pretty high but my SAT is only 1280/1600. It truly isn’t that good at all. However, I kinda have a lot of extracurriculars. I’m not sure if I’ll get in though because of my SAT.
@jp6250 I think you were actually correct. Lol. See below.
Or above of this…
Hey ppl, quick question: what is an easy freshman course for someone not wanting an overly-difficult and competitive first quarter (planned science major, but I could postpone certain things). For example is an intro. Sociology or Anthropology course a lot less competitive than say intro. chemistry (vs. just slightly less so)?
I mean, if I’m even admitted, I don’t really want an overly stressful first quarter (while just getting settled in).
@xc&track-run Lol you’re thinking too far ahead. I didn’t worry about courses until orientation when they said hey time to pick classes. If you are admitted, at New Student Orientation over the summer they will have every single student in small groups broken down by major. Your NSA (group leader) will go over what classes you should take to stay in track. Freshman are only allowed 3 classes first quarter. A fourth can be taken but must be a fiat lux seminar. I took math, CS, and English first quarter and it was very manageable.
@10s4life you said classes fill up pretty quickly and that you do it at orientation. If you go to a later orientation does that mean you’ll have a harder time selecting classes/that you’ll have fewer options?
hey guys lurker here, waiting on admission results. In the mean time i was wondering if i could get some advice on my situation (no safeties). sorry for the chance post but

@potus2044 No cause at each orientation they reserve a certain amount of spots. For instance Chem 20A has 300 spots. Each orientation will get 20 spots so your chances are the same. That was just an example with numbers made off the top of my head.
