My son also recieved the request for an LOR from Berkeley and got the likely letter from LA.
Didn’t receive LOR from Berkeley but got a likely letter from UCLA Really hope that doesn’t mean I’m rejected.
the LOR request from berkeley is for borderline applicants. I’m a regents candidate there and I received no LOR request–the people I know who did have GPAs much lower than normal for their SAT scores. so don’t worry if you didn’t get one!
(& I think UCB and UCLA have different admissions standards alltogether, because I am only a regents candidate for Cal, which would make it seem like it’s harder to get into UCLA. who knows. but I did get the UCLA likely letter.)
I personally know at least 3 people who got rejected/waitlisted at ucla but accepted to Berkeley so don’t assume if you don’t receive anything from one school you are automatically rejected by the other. Good luck to everyone!
Getting a likely letter definitely means you have been accepted! The school just can’t say so officially until their acceptance date. As long as you don’t get suspended, fail, etc, you’re in.
@ambikav33 Are you absolutely sure?
I had received the alumni scholarship invite email but I doubt my stats are in the top percentage of applicants, but I think earlier in this thread people were saying that the invite was based on stats? Could it have been a mistake?
@voltthorn Yes! They only send likely letters to top applicants, and like other people have said, it makes no sense to invite you to an open house that will occur after decisions have been sent. Congrats!
What do the likely letters say? Because I received an email with the subject line “Save The Date - Discover UCLA Engineering”. UCLA is my number one, a response would be satisfying. Thank you!
@Bulldog9 this is the likely letter that u got…
Hey everyone congrats to those who go into ucsd and Davis yesterday. That’s quite an accomplishment in today’s admissions game. Here is a recap of what happened and to answer some questions floating around:
- UCLA decisions, as predicted, will be posted March 17th around 5 pm if things hold true from last year. The portal may crash so don't worry you'll find out eventually.
- Admit packets will be in your mailbox within 1-2 weeks. Inside is an important checklist that can also be found in your portal that has all the steps needed to do for enrollment. DO NOT miss a step because it can mess up the registration process you've worked this hard so keep being diligent.
- Regents inviteees are for sure admits. Congrats!
- Alumni scholarship invitees have a high chance of getting in. Fingers crossed!
- Those who got personal emails to attend Discover Engineering Open house are for sure admits. This is the likely letter. You are a top student ucla wants. Congrats! Even if you did not get the email you are still invited to attend. Just youll be invited when you get in. I was did not get the Engineering likely letter but still got in. I did get the UCSD likely letter though.
- Please attend Bruin Day if you can. It's an awesome experience to meet fellow classmates and get a taste of campus life.
- Professional school admit days are a day later (Easter) so make appropriate plans.
- Book hotels asap. They go quickly and the partner ones that offer discounted rates will sell out. Last years bruin day brought 50k people on campus.
9.If you are unhappy with your Financial Aid package fill out a petition form ONLY if there is a change in financial circumstances from the initial fafsa submission. “I can’t afford it or my parents won’t pay” are not sufficient excuses and are a waste of time.
- UCSD and UCD are good indicators if you will get into ucla but it's not for sure. So asking if getting into X school means you'll get into Y isn't worth asking.
- Unfortunately with how competitive it is to get in, not everyone will be admitted. While it is tempting to call admissions and wonder why or ask for reconsideration just realize all decisions really are final. Rather than dwell on it focus on the bright side. The college you end up attending will be the time of your life. Make the best of it and enjoy!!
Was the likely letter only sent to engineering students?
@savagenumber1 Yes. The email was titled ‘Save The Date - Discover UCLA Engineering’
For calculating a UC GPA, my school does year long courses, not semester and when i count how many honors courses ive taken i get to count each ap as 2 bc theyre year long not semester. Does that mean to calc my uc gpa i should be counting each class/grade twice? Anyone know? Thanks.
@Bulldog9 According to @10s4life you’re in! It’s a likely letter, just wait to confirm it this Friday. Congrats!
So is Bruin Day on April 8th?
@10s4life Are UCLA Alumni scholarship emails not sent to every applicant? So there’s a high chance of acceptance if one receives an email as such?
What happens if you get accepted to UCLA but can’t afford it? I’m instate by the way.
My son also received a “Save the Date” letter for UCLA Engineering. He also received his UCSD and Georiga Tech acceptance. And both Cal SLO and Pomona. We are thrilled. Waiting now to hear from the top private for Material/Mechanical Engineering.
@“Wilt Chamberlain” Uh they don’t attend. It’s kinda obvious
