@10s4life Well first off, what is your major?
And what is the student life like? What kind of clubs and such are there? How is the overall atmosphere?
English major here and applicant from Texas. Anxious about UCLA however I realize for most it’s a reach / dream school.
@WJShipp I sent you a PM
Does UCLA really have 30 ACT as average? that surprises me.
@WJShipp wow that acceptance rate is horrible…Good luck!
@Taewoolee Ya how come that is surprising?
@10s4life since even though UCLA is not a private school, it seems like so competitive. and most of colleges that are in kinda same level as UCLA have a decent score average.
UCLA’s ACT is only 30?
I read somewhere that the average is around 33. Am I wrong?
@WJShipp In entering class of 2015, 55% of accepted students submitted ACT scores, avg was 29 composite.
Same year, 83% submitted SAT scores, avg Reading score was 641, avg Math score was 672.
The UC website is pretty organized at showing freshman profiles for the various campuses. If you start here
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/profiles/
you can find your campus and check all the pertinent stats. I think Berkeley and UCLA and others take the holistic view and don’t necessarily eliminate/accept based on any particular individual numbers.
To answer your question about ACT you can find that the 25%-75% was 29-34 ACT composite for the 2016 freshman class for UCLA.
@Taewoolee Public or private doesn’t necessarily mean ucla will be easier to get into. Remember an average is skewed by extrema. The 25-75th percentile scores provide a much better indication on test scores.
@10s4life “Alumni scholarships are open to everyone to apply but it is highly unlikely you will get it if you do not get the invite. An earlier post has admission rates for alumni scholarship invitees between 60-65%. Alumni scholarships are 4-5k per year renewable based on GPA.”
In the Alumni Scholarships program here-- most of these statements aren’t true, lol. Invites are sent out primarily based on GPA/test scores. It’s an automated thing. The scholarships themselves are awarded on merit primarily based on your answers to the Alumni Scholarship application, and your extracurriculars. If I recall correctly, they don’t even look at your grades. Furthermore, there is no link between alumni scholarship invites and acceptances, so I’m a little bit skeptical about that statistic. Scholarships range from $4,000 to $20,000 split over your four years at UCLA, and there is also potential for need-based scholarships on top of that. Scholarships are renewable based on many factors, but primarily just being in good academic standing (not on academic probation) and community service hours.
I highly recommend that everyone apply regardless of whether you got the invite email or not. Similarly to Regents, it is a club in addition to just a scholarship, and the connections and opportunities made through the organization are really amazing.
@boulangerie thanks for the clarity. The correlation stat was from someone in the alumni scholarships program who posted a thread on cc. That probably came because high GPA applicants who get the invite are more likely to get in vs lower GPAs. Congrats on being an alumni scholar it’s not easy to get through the interview competition
I’ve been reading through these post and just want to clarify that OOS kids can get merit aid aside from regents/alumni scholarships, but getting theses scholarships is very competitive. Good luck everybody!

Very stressed student here, would love if someone could chance me or make me feel a little better! Thanks!
Let’s not make this a chance thread. This should be a thread to communicate with each other about letters of rec requests and decisions posted!
@CA1562 Honestly the best chance you can give yourself is look at the median admit stats and go from there. @DreamforIvy Is right, this thread should be a place to communicate about the admit process and life at ucla in general. If you put all you had into the application then you have to know it’s out of your control and all the chancing in the world won’t change the decision. There are high stats applicants that get denied and low stats applicants that are accepted. Trust the right decision will be made and no matter which college you attend, make the most of it and you’ll have the best 4 years of your life. UCLA is a great college, I love being a student here, but it’s not the end all be all. There are plenty of fantastic schools. Good luck and don’t stress, enjoy the last months of high school.
Anyone else see that UCLA has a record number of applicants this year. 102,000 and aimed class size of 6500 doubt and worthlessness hits u in the face huh
