Quick note for any potential students needing a high GPA for grad school: UCLA is highly competitive and known for grade deflation. Grading is also highly professsor dependent so some students in one class may get mostly As while others will earn more Cs. Classes fill up quickly and due to the increase of enrollment it is hard to get “better professors”. AP credit also no longer counts for advance standing to get better enrollment times. Just know getting the 3.8+ for med school is going to be a lot tougher than most other schools.

@ndoge99 This isn’t a ChanceMe thread! Sorry. Please post somewhere else.
Lol thanks I’m just so worried about decisions. Also realized one of my stats is incorrect act 31 not 32
@ndoge99 You have between a 0-100% chance of getting in. Seriously chancing is pointless.
@ndoge99 How did you prepare for Physics SAT 2?
Do all students enter into the College of L&S undeclared? Or do we get into our major right away?
@liwen6 Technically everyone is a “pre major” which is undeclared but you are on a path to declare on the condition you meet pre reqs. Most Biz Econ or Comm pre majors for example will declare something else because they failed to meet pre reqs and they are particularly impacted. That’s why major choice has no bearing on admissions for L&S.
I personally used baron’s book. I got lucky because my physics class junior year covered AP 1 and 2. Then I was in the second month of AP physics c mech and e&m when I took SAT so material was all fresh.
i’m oos and sent in app a few weeks ago ughh and i’ve been stressing

Essays: Did prompts 1, 2, 6, 7. 2 was by far my best one. For 1, I wrote about being president of the Students of Color club and discussed how in an overwhelmingly white school, how much backlash that club often received how i dealt with it etc. 2, I discussed how creative expression has been the way i’ve dealt with any hardship in my life, how i’ve been involved with writing and singing and acting for a long time and how it helped me through a depression diagnosis. failing tests, and conflict within family. really passionate on that one lmao. For 6, I wrote about English, and how important it was to me and how it fueled my love for acting/theatre etc, and how i want to pursue a career in journalism/creative writing. i’m worried it was a bit similar to two, but I think i managed to make it sound different or at least not like a carbon copy. For 7, I wrote about activism, protests i attended through the years in and around chicago/the north shore area, and advocating for causes in school etc

Are you applying for financial aid?: i got my fafsa but i have some local merit scholarships already and am applying for more. don’t think i’ll get need based aid.

@victorw45: Impossible to have a capped UC GPA greater than 4.4. https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Regardless, you look competitive for UCLA so Good Luck.
UC’s do not give need-based aid for OOS students.
Do you think I have a chance? I have been extremely stressed out because I have a very low SAT score for UCLA. Although my SAT score is low, my GPA is high because of so many extra community college classes that I took and aced in addition to a full time high school schedule with AP classes.
Name of UCLA school you are applying to: College of Letters and Science

In addition to a full time high school schedule, I have also taken and aced 14 community college UC transferable classes during 10th - 11th grades, and I will be taking 8 more in my senior year (see below)
SAT I (breakdown): 1260 NEW SAT (this is approximately equal to a 1760/2400 on the old SAT, and I realize that this is my biggest weak spot in my application)
SAT II: None

Gender: Male
State: CA
Income Bracket: 130,000
Are you applying for financial aid?: YES
Hooks: - First Generation American, neither of my parents has a Bachelors degree (only my mom has an Associates)
Comments: Essentially, I have a weak SAT score and weak essays, but my uncapped GPA is really strong, plus the fact that I aced 14 community college classes while having a full time high school schedule in 10th - 11th grade shows that I took an extremely rigorous curriculum.
Do you think I might have a chance at UCLA with my weak SAT score?
@need2go2UCLA First things sweet username lol. I don’t chance but what I can tell you is this:
UCLA and the other UCs place a heavier emphasis on GPA over test scores because GPA shows long term work ethic. That works in your favor. L&S is holistic vs the way admissions are almost solely numbers based in HSSEAS (I can provide details of that via PM to interested engineering applicants). That also works in your favor if you’re ECs and essays are strong. Best of luck and don’t worry too much. If ucla isn’t meant to be then they don’t deserve you anyways. You’ll have a blast at whatever school you attend. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

probably won’t get in lol
I am wondering why many people said quite high their UC GPA (capped) ?
that means up to 8 semester extra points, right? (G10–G11)
@ttkk48 Some people most likely were giving their uncapped GPAs.
103,000+ applicants . . . and you can hear a pin drop in this room
My scjool has only % grade , not letter grade so I am wondering how uc gpa is calculated.
Any grade 90 or more is 4. Then add and divide to see. If all your grades are 90 and up, 4.0.???
It is correct??
