Hey guys, when I was looking at my financial award letter, UCLA didn’t provide me with any financial aid but provided me with an “achievement scholarship” of around $6,600 per year. I didn’t know that UCLA had merit scholarships besides the alumni one…does everyone usually get some variation in amount of the achievement scholarship? And if I end up receiving an alumni scholarship, which I had applied for, will the amount of money that I received for my achievement scholarship be replaced by the alumni scholarship amount or be added on to the money I earned from the achievement scholarship if that makes sense. I’m an OOS applicant by the way (don’t know if that helps). Thanks!
Man, you’re lucky. I feel like if you got the alumni one, it would be added onto it.
^^ for @Darius13
Also, does anyone know the process for appealing for more aid?
@yungsnake99 okay thanks man!
Congrats to those who have been accepted! I’ll be applying in the near future - anyone willing to share their stats?
@jdawg24 - Did you get an email from the RSS as well? Curious about the Regents as well.
@Lorshim1965 I called the UCLA Financial Aid office and it turns out that I actually am a Regents Scholar but there was a glitch in the system or something like that. After they updated my Financial Aid, I got the Regents email and I saw my Regents Scholarship on my Provisional Award Letter (PAL).

@jdawg24 - Congrats on Regents!!! We had to submit a few more documents for FA so awaiting for them to update to receive the PAL. Hoping that since my son received the RSS email that he did indeed get the Regents Scholarship as well. What major did you apply for?
@Lorshim1965 If your son received the RSS email then he definitely got Regents! I applied for Pre Mathematics/Economics.
does anyone have any idea if there is or will be some sort of facebook group for accepted students?

In my UC app, I talked about the blogger con I founded (and how it failed), a creative way to show my love of lists and organization, my insecurities, and psychology.
In general, I highly suggest you find what makes you different (for me it was my unique writing style) and use it to your advantage. For example, I wrote my lists one beginning with a list (I’m actually quite proud of that list.) My insecurities question was crafted in the usual before and now, but I used short sentences to hone on the point (I also write fiction with short sentences too.)
If you have any questions, about UC applications or even just college apps in general, don’t be afraid to ask!
@mstern18 Michigan and UCLA have a lot of similarities and just a couple of differences. Both have extremely sharp kids, have great school spirit and sports, large campuses, attached to small walkable towns, similar ranking and prestige. Being in Los Angeles vs Ann Arbor is a big difference. I don’t have an opinion of one over the other, but it’s a big difference. And maybe the demographics of the student body — haven’t looked at that.
Just learned I got into USC! super excited to meet you all; my interests are piano, surfing, history and parties ;D
Hey this is totally random but what do you guys think between UCLA and Notre Dame? This isn’t assuming financial aid helps with the cost of a private.
My daughter had this dilemma last year, having to choose between UCLA and Notre Dame. In the end, she picked UCLA. Her major (biology) tilted the decision in that direction. UCLA’s biology department ranks high globally. And as a premed, access to the highly regarded UCLA Ronald Reagan medical center for volunteering and research is a major plus. The location in Westwood is a no brainer. Notre Dame is a beautiful school, but the neighborhood in South Bend not so much. UCLA also has a beautiful campus and is in fact more visually and topographically interesting than Notre Dame’s. Finally, even as a full pay OOS student , UCLA is $10k less expensive to my daughter than at Notre Dame full pay.
Has anyone received their acceptance packet yet?
hey! does anyone know how housing works? Is it first come first serve? So, if you don’t turn in your housing application until the end of April, do you still have a chance of getting a double room? Or would those be given to the people who turned in their housing application first?
