UCLA Class of 2022 - Applicant Thread

Hey Guys, I haven’t seen a Freshman Applicant thread for UCLA for Fall 2018 (Class of 2022) so I figured I would go ahead and create one. Feel free to comment your stats and questions regarding the application process. UCLA is my dream school but I am worried because my stats make me look just like all of the other applicants.

First of all, gl to everyone in this year’s application process… I submitted my app to UCLA and UC Berkeley yesterday… however @kitkat01 there are simply too many criteria to say whether we look similar or not to other applicants. I am an international student applying via Gap year. I have 1500 Sat (700 English + 800 Maths), Subjects of 800 Maths II, 740 French and a 680 Biology (this is probably my weak point-so im retaking it in November ([tomorrow precisely :D]) and 112 TOEFL. It also depends on how well written and unique your story is. I wish everyone the best.

When we toured UCLA and went to the admissions session, they told us that they use a holistic process and pay serious attention to the personal interest questions. Given that it’s hard to know how they will weigh those questions, it’s difficult to know whether your chances are good, bad or indifferent. Just do your best, apply to safety schools, and cross your fingers!

I just submitted my app on Nov. 30th. How soon should I expect to receive a confirmation?

@Camchar88 I read somewhere (and I think it was something off of UCLA’s website, but I can’t remember what page or section) that we don’t have access to an application status until mid-december. So we probably won’t get emails about a portal or anything until that time. I submitted on the 27th and got a portal from Berkeley a couple days ago but I don’t have anything from UCLA yet.

In and following for my D17. Best of luck to all!

@18college1111 Thanks for answering my question! On my UCB portal, I didn’t see a financial aid checklist. Did you?

@sandiegodad2017 sorry if I sound dumb, what is D17?

UCLA sent me that my application has been received today, anyone else?

@iris126 I also got a confirmation email from UCLA that my application was received.

@iris126 when did you submit your app

@seemas I submitted my app 11/28

I submitted mine on 11/04 and still waiting for response

I just got an email from UCLA about my portal

@Seemas Have you checked your spam inbox? I submitted my application on 11/30 and I received it this afternoon.

I checked my spam and trash folders but nothing there. I will wait and call them after one week.

Nope, didnt get mine either.

I just got the app received email

Me too!

Hi! I’m an out-of-state applicant from Cleveland, Ohio and was just wondering everybody’s input on my stats and whatever. Okay. So on the very first day applications became open to submit (November 1st), I literally refreshed my UC application page for minutes until it was released. Pretty sure I was one of the first  lol but that means nothing at all. Anyways, I applied and got the status check email yesterday night around 9 PM. So here are my stats: 1350 SAT single sitting, would be 1380 superscored but whatever. 3.7630 weighted GPA from my high school but just to fact check here, my high school, Solon high school was ranked #1 high school in the country according to Business Insider this year, and we do have some of the absolute toughest curriculum a high school has to offer (not sure at all if they take that into account but yeah for bragging rights there ya go hehe). Alright so on top of this, I have taken 4 years of math, 2 years being honors geometry and honors algebra 2 since they obviously don’t have AP for those, have fulfilled more than enough science credits (took physical science freshman year, honors biology and honors chemistry sophomore year, took half a year of AP chemistry junior year and chose to drop it mid-year because the difficulty level was way too extreme but at the same time was taking physics, and now as a senior am taking forensics). Have been taking six years of Spanish and now am in AP spanish this year, have taken one full year of arts (I suck at art so chose the easier ones like photography and ceramics), fulfilled my gym credits, have been taking four years of english (took honors junior year, AP senior year was just wayyyy too much reading and I was not about that). And mostly finally, for the more important of my classes, took world history freshman year, US history sophomore year, to government, economics and AP Psychology junior year (sadly got a 2 on the AP test because my teacher was absolutely awful but got a B fot the year). Outside of school, I participated in Key Club and SADD for two years both (very basic I know), volunteer weekly by tutoring (again very basic), and lifeguarded for three years both during the school year and summer, and also competitively dove D1 for three years, going to states all three and coming in top 10 for D1 athletes in the state of Ohio, whilst receiving diver of the year for Ohio, scholar athlete, and many many more. I’m a pretty stellar writer, although it is clearly not demonstrated in this paragraph lol. My essays for UC were pretty pristine in my opinion and I think I showed the sides of myself that were definitely not displayed within the questionnaire/fill-out part of the application. Oh and an important factor here is that I CAN pay full tuition each year, even if they spike up the price by like $10k a year without needing any financial aid. I know my stats are mostly lower than the average applicant (especially GPA), but does anybody think I have at least a mere hint at getting in? I’m white, which probably doesn’t help but I’m Jewish which might lmao. I feel like my application is going to be very very average compared to everyone elses and have literally no idea what to expect at all Thankss(:
