@Outforaduck Good to know.
Accepted to Pre-Economics! Does anybody know how or when I can found out about financial aid for UCLA?
@followlifesflow There is a lot of support. Each student is assigned a faculty adviser (most schools only give that to grad students) and a student adviser (upper class men) to guide them in addition to our dedicated counseling dept. Professors are helpful and are good at what they do. Professors teach all stem classes at UCLA. TAs lead discussion sections. The TAs can sometimes be better than a prof because they are closer to our age. UCLA has a lot of labs but most classes are theoretical. Clubs are where you can really get your hands dirty. I am a big proponent of theoretical engineering. Having solid theory allows you to translate your knowledge to unknown situations. For instance in a technical interview for an internship I was asked a question that I had never been asked before and used the background I had learned from class and applied it on the spot. If I had only learned how do it one way “by doing” then I wouldn’t be able to apply the theoretical knowledge. Except for Cal Poly most other engineering schools lean towards the theory side. For those that just like tinkering a electrical engineering technology is usually better
Anyone know when the details of the financial package is available
to 10s4life: if I didn’t submit FAFSA,(not eligable for any need bases financial aid), does I it mean I can’t apply/receive any merit based scholarship? My UCLA pages says PAL is not available because of missing FAFSA information. Thank you.
Accepted for Biology

ECs- above average? idk
Congrats to everyone
@10s4life Thanks so much for your reply! Very helpful! Yes SLO is also a school I am considering although Michigan and UCLA are truly my top options. And project teams are definitely something I want to be a part of since I learn so much when I get my hands dirty. The only reason I am leaning a little more towards Michigan currently is because I want to be part of their solar car team and it has such a good reputation. Do you know a bit about the electric vehicle team at UCLA? Is it competitive to get in? Is it helpful for getting hired by companies? I want to work with alternative energy vehicles and autonomous vehicles so companies like UBER, TESLA, and Google interest me a lot. Thank you again!
@followlifesflow The Ucla solar vehicle is part of bruin racing. I know the effort has close to 100 students on it. All engineering clubs are non competitive to get. You just join and start working. One note is I’ve found clubs aren’t necessarily the only way to get internships. I am only lightly involved in my club and had no issues with getting an internship.
@10s4life Ok. Thanks so much for all your input. I greatly appreciate it! Before getting into UCLA I was almost entirely committed on Michigan and now I don’t know what to do anymore.
@followlifesflow Let me know if you have any other questions. You should def come to Discover Engineering! Plus it’s 70 degrees year round
@10s4life Yes I’m coming to both Bruin Day and discover engineering. I actually live in L.A suburbs so I’m used to the weather.
@10s4life do you know anything about the engineering waitlist? I was waitlisted for mechanical engineering, does it usually fill up? I want to know if it’s worth a shot being on the waitlist since it’s difficult to get in engineering in the first place.
OMG. My D just realized she got UCLA Regents. It’s not straight forward process. We first received the acceptance letter. Since we haven’t committed yet, so didn’t bother to register. Today, she was playing around, completed registration for ID, then clicked financial aid package and awards. Then she saw provisional UCLA regent’s scholarship. So happy for her!!!
@Laketahoe79 When did your daughter receive the acceptance letter?
@10s4life I recently heard on Reddit that someone was getting their app “re-reviewed” for admission. Have you ever heard of this happening? Just wondering.
@SCMHAALUM Friday after 5PM. I think they may sent out the same time. But most people just didn’t realize it for the extra steps.
@Laketahoe79 Thank you!
What comes in the UCLA acceptance package?
@NeleDame Very few if any get off the waitlist for Engineering. UCLA’s yield rate especially for Engineering has steadily been increasing partly due to early outreach and admit engagement once decisions come out. Obviously anything can happen but it’s wise to have backup plans and not count on the waitlist.
@stevensonjj0 Some applicants appeal the rejection. In almost all cases it’s denied because the primary reasons people give are usually 1. I have good senior year grades (those don’t count) or 2. Ucla is my favorite dream school (isn’t it everyone’s?)
