No - it’s not everyone’s!
@moodswiing It comes with a folder with a poster, acceptance letter, financial aid package, conditions of admission, bruin day info, and a Ucla brochure. Not sure if they trimmed anything out to make it more eco friendly.
@mclmom That was just a little sarcasm.
There’s just some really funny reasons for appeals that get sent in.
@momLA2018 , don’t feel like you are in the dark just because you are OOS - my husband and I are lifelong CA residents who attended UCs and we are still getting lots of info from 10s4life’s posts!!! There is so much to navigate and keep up on during this college search. Thanks, @10s4life!
@pickledginger Anytime! Glad to be of help in this process.
@10s4life They got an email stating that, at the request of the School of Engineering, their app was being reviewed again. However, the email called them “Applicant” rather than an actual name, which makes it seem less personal. It’s just weird that I didn’t see anything about this on CC.
@stevensonjj0 Hmm I have never heard that before. I’ll have to find out more about that tomorrow. Is it spam or does it have a Ucla.edu address?
Anyone how likely it is to get off the waitlist for Biochemistry?
I was admitted to UCLA for English, but I am now starting to have second thoughts and would like to switch to Pre-Political Science. I know that through the New Bruins page on UCLA Admissions that freshmen can change their majors at New Student Orientation, but I’m worried that I won’t be able to change because political science is more popular. Does anyone have knowledge of these policies?
@collegiate65 You can switch no problem. Right now you aren’t in the english major either. This is just a pre major status. At orientation you’ll be with the english majors and this way it makes it easier to pick classes since you’ll know whats required. Since you are switching you’ll just be advised to take other classes. You won’t declare a major till late first year or early second year depending on how fast you finish pre reqs. Congrats and go bruins!
Thank you!!! @10s4life
@anotherdooropens Ohhh! I’m sorry that I didn’t notice that (Oops!) That must be very competitive for your major…
@thewait123 Providing you submitted your FAFSA financial aid packages are available to view on your MyUCLA portal. I also highly recommend the tutorial video the financial aid office has on their home page that walks you through your provisional award letter step by step. You can find it here: http://financialaid.ucla.edu/
@Awakefish You can still be considered for merit based scholarships without having submitted a FAFSA. However, the majority of aid at UCLA is need based, or merit based with need taken in to consideration for the amount of the award. You can definitely still apply for scholarships, you just have to keep that all in mind.
Does anybody know how good the Economics/Business Programs are in compared to other schools like USC?
@10s4life Hi! I see that you know how the UCLA system works. I can tell you are very well informed so I want to ask for your help and advice. I have been in United States for only a year (by the time I have applied it hasn’t been even a year). My unweighted GPA was (is) 4.0. Never got a B in my life (though have changed high school because of my life circumstances). My SAT score was not that high, but it as higher than the student’s who got accepted last year from my school - 1220 (her score was 1000) , SAT Math 2- 740. Have been actively involved in volunteering, took Accounting 1, Spanish 1, and am currently taking Spanish 2 and English 101 at community college. I have applied for Financial Actuarial Mathematics. I still feel that I am a strong candidate, even though I got rejected. I am going to appeal the decision but I do not know anything about the process. Do you have any recommendations? Please, anything would help. Thanks for your time!
@muffinbun Hi! Thanks for the compliment. I’m sorry to hear you were not admitted. First off you can’t compare yourself to one person from your school who got in as a baseline. That sample size is incredibly small. Congrats on a 4.0 that’s great. Note most of the Ucla weighting is on academic achievement. Not looking at your weighted gpa I see a big problem with your test scores. A 1220 is extremely low. It’s well below the 25th percentile. That is not what I would call a strong candidate when 1560s are being denied. Let’s say you had a much higher sat, what is your reason for an appeal? Ucla has thoroughly reviewed your app and an appeal is only taken seriously if new pertinent information that was unavailable at the time of review is provided. Note senior year grades is not new information. I’m sorry to say but unless you have a reason Ucla denotes as valid for an appeal you are wasting your time. It’s best to move on to another school. It sucks but that’s unfortunately the way it is. Ucla would love to take everyone but there just isn’t enough space. Feel free to ask for any clarifications. Best of luck.
@Chelydraroach no worries at all! yeah it’s surprising hard to find a target school with both a strong art and academic program :\ anyways congrats on your acceptance! your gpa is crazy high :o and EBE sounds very cool
For UCs, you know how you have to immediately report if you’ve dropped a class or have a grade lower than a C senior year? Is there a similar rule for taking AP exams? If my D stated on her application that she is taking the AP stats exam in May but has now decided against it, does she have to report this to UCLA admissions?
