Another quick question that applies to not just UCLA, but all the UC schools: when admissions are released, will we be notified though email immediately after or is it better to periodically login to the admissions portals and refresh?
@imwiththeband99 They send emails typically the next day. Believe me you’ll know when they release the decisions. The portals usually crash so waiting 5-6 hours is usually a safe bet unless you are part of the first crowd to check.
@10s4life thank you for being so helpful!
This year, UCLA is definitely behind. I heard in the previous years, UCLA has been always the first out among the UC leagues to send out invites.
@Laketahoe79 Hmm. My son has heard from UCB and UCSB so far.
is regents coming out today
@coolguy985 No one will know when it will come out. Best bet is to relax and sit tight.
@10s4life The promotional email campaign borders on cruel. The one that came today about making UCLA “your home” was brutal. 100K+ kids wishing it could be so. Sigh.
@CopperlineX2 Don’t worry too much about it! Regardless of where you end up you’ll love the school you go to. The people you meet, the memories you make, those are all more important than the rank or perceived prestige if a school. That’s what you’re going to remember 25 Years post graduation.
Hello! I am an out of state (Indiana) freshman applicant for fall 2018 and I was wondering if people could give me an honest opinion of whether I will get admitted or not. I applied for the school of nursing as well because I want to major in nursing. I am a white female so that does not put me in a minority but neither of my parents went to college and have worked in factories their entire adult life. I have a 3.8 weighted GPA with a 1150 SAT score and a composite score of 23 for the ACT. I noticed that UCLA has stressed that they take a holistic approach, meaning they look at how well rounded of a student you are more than your GPA and test scores. I would say I am pretty well rounded student. I am involved in 4-H, NHS, Track and cross country, have a part time job, took an internship at a hospital, and I am currently waiting to take my test to become a CNA (certified nurses assistant). This is just a little background to help determine whether you think I will get in or not. I know UCLA has a fairly low acceptance rate so I am wondering my chances of getting in. Thanks!
@Samanthakay25 Just giving an honest opinion, a 23 at UCLA, especially for a white female out of state, is going to the reject pile. Although UCLA does do a “holistic” review as many colleges claim to do so, that ACT is really just too low to even justify looking at your supplemental aspects. Unless you’re a recruited athelete, I’d say your chances are slim to none.
@Samanthakay25 While Ucla is holistic, the greatest weight is on the gpa and test scores. In fact it makes up almost 60-70% of the weight. Nursing is also not as holistic as L&S as they do their own admissions. Have you completed the nursing supplement? Not doing the supplement is a guarantee for rejection
@Samanthakay25: With a GPA below 4.0 and test scores below the 25th percentile, I have to agree you chances are slim.
Why California for Nursing? CA is probably has the most competitive admissions for Nursing. Many CA residents end up going OOS to get into a Nursing program.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 (capped weighted) and not major specific:

25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCLA: 1280-1500
25th - 75th percentiles for ACT:

Hi! If someone could please tell me what chance I have of getting into UCLA, that would be great!
unweighted UC GPA: 3.90
weighted: 4.60
weighted and capped: 4.30
SAT: 1480
AP classes: chem (4), european history (4), biology (4), calculus ab (5), french (3), english lang (4). Currently taking microeconomics, government, calc bc, and psychology.
Essays: 8.5/10. One of the counselors at my school is a UCSD reader, and she says my essays were very strong if that helps at all.
ECs: modern feminist club secretary, african culture club officer, dance club co-president, girl up club, operation smile club, link crew leader, handbell choir, polynesian club, treehuggers recycling club, peer tutor. I’m also a paid dancer for a professional dance troupe and have been dancing for 13 years.
Other: In state, Indian (Asian) female, upper middle class, applied for biology as first choice and psychobiology as my alternate.
I am truly dedicated to all of the extracurriculars but I feel like none of them are very strong, if you know what I mean?
@mintscentedlove you can relax, you are getting in
could someone chance we as well? I’m a nervous wreck:(
GPA:
unweighed = 3.83
weighted = 4.42
UC Weighted Capped = 4.18
ACT: 35
I accidentally sent SAT II Scores that i normally never would have sent and I’m really nervous it’ll ruin my app. I sent four. lowest score was 640, highest was 740.
APs
Chem - 4
Physics- 4
APUSH - 5
AP Lang - 4
Senior Course load: AP Lit, AP calc ab, ap comp sci principles, economics (no ap offering at my school), AP Bio
Essays: really bad at judging my own writing, but I wish I had been more creative. They show leadership though (I think).
ECs are so subjective so I really have no idea how they will react to them. I’ve had lots of jobs and run my own photography business. I also have a lot of leadership/elected positions through school. idk?? i can be more specific later if that helps
I’m just so worried b/c so many people on the UCLA CC thread from last year had amazing stuff but were rejected anyways.
its my dream:.(
Chancing is pointless. All posters can do is go based off of published stats. You can do that yourself. No matter what people say it’s up to the decisions of the adcoms. Ucla has become so competitive that most of the applicants can handle the workload and be successful. Many more than qualified applicants are denied. Just sit tight. Don’t worry about chances or the stupid email speculation. 3rd Friday of March is only a few short weeks away. Enjoy the rest of high school!
@10s4life Agreed. Although I respond to posters since they do take the time to ask, my word means nothing more than pure speculation as adcoms are ultimately the ones who decide the fate of the applicant.
Well looks like no regents today
