Hi All,
I know being waitlisted is not the outcome many of you were hoping when applying. To be completely honest, a waitlist spot means it is unlikely to be admitted since it is used to fill up extra spots in the class. Its usually easiest in easing disappointment for admits on a waitlist to mentally commit to the school they submitted an SIR too. It can be tough if UCLA was your ā€œdream schoolā€ but trust me, once you attend the school you commit to and go to a football game, attend your first class, meet your roommates, and start to build memories, you will wonder why you ever thought about another college. Something I was told that I havenā€™t forgotten when I was an applicant was ā€œDonā€™t let the college define your experience, your experience is defined by youā€.

Some logistical stuff to clear up confusion:

  1. For people waitlisted in the College of Letters and Science, no one is admitted or waitlisted for a specific major. Admitted students are Pre Majors which places them in the correct orientation groups so they know what classes they need to take to declare that major upon satisfying pre reqs with a certain GPA. All applicants for L&S are admitted without major taken into consideration. So waitlisted applicants are admitted off a waitlist specific to L&S without major as a factor. English, biz econ, life sciences, its all the same. What does matter is in state vs out of state.
  1. For people waitlisted in Engineering, students apply for a specific major. Anyone admitted is directly admitted into the major. The engineering school is extremely competitive and has had rising yield rates over the years making the waitlist less used than L&S.

Best of luck and stay safe.

@10s4life ā€¦ Typically, how many people get off the waitlist for computer science? Also, Iā€™ve read in previous posts that the yield rate for engineering is pretty low.

So far two people ( that I know ) rejected their spot at UCLA in L&S ( which I also applied to ). Does that mean that their spots are reserved then for people in the waitlist from my school? Or do their spots just go to anyone else on the waitlist regardless if they go to my school or not?
I heard schools can only accept a specific % of students per school so idk if that plays a role right now

@valeria001 I think they go to anyone on the waitlist/appeals regardless if they go to your school or notā€¦not sure though

How does one get to know that they are off the waitlist ? Does one receive an email or have to keep checking yourself ?

@reyanrocks007 You will receive an email when youā€™re accepted off the waitlistā€¦I believe itā€™s the same way even if you are not end up getting picked off the waitlist but not really sure about thatā€¦I know for SURE that youā€™ll get an email when you are accepted off the waitlist

Does anyone know if waitlisted ā†’ accepted students get the fun mail package?

Have many international students gotten off the waitlist? I applied for an pre-econ major at L&S and Iā€™m not sure if I should still keep my hopes upā€¦

I hope something gets released today

Doesnā€™t look like it :frowning:

Nope :frowning:

When is the final date for the waitlist is it the 1st of June?

@Livingonhope I think everyone is supposed to know their final admission status by June 1st

Also, the facebook group has only 5841 members and UCLA needs 6300+ peopleā€¦i know that this data is not reliable as there are already students in there who currently attend UCLA but itā€™s still something

You are correct. According to UCLA, the yield rate for engineering overall has been a little over 30% for the last 2 years, and for CS and CSE in particular the yield has been below 30%.
