UCLA Communication Studies Major

Anyone get into UCLA' Comm program?
If so, please post up what you have done to get into the program?
I really want to know what I should further do when applications come up.

As for me:

I fulfilled 6/7 pre-reqs with A's last Spring.

I even fulfilled a missing pre-req that no other CC's offer, and took it at UCLA during the summer getting a "B;" paying a **** load of money.

So now I finished 7/7 of UCLA's Comm. pre-reqs

Also, I'm a maintaining a 3.91 GPA with Honor's at my local CC.

Do you guys think this will possibly get me in UCLA's comm program?

The reason I ask is because I hear getting in is extremely competitive.

I hear internships can boost an applicants chances,
but I'm not sure if this is even true!?

So, please reply away with your thoughts.

Thanks.

You seem competitive and getting an internship will help your chances if it does not take away from your grades. But even though you are competitive you can still be hovering slightly above a 50/50 chance.

I am a graduate of the UCLA Comm Studies program.

It may be different for transfer students, but I know for freshmen and sophomore applicants to the program, the only thing that they consider is GPA and the number of courses you've taken from the pre-req list.

So I'd say you have a good chance!

I am trying to transfer to UCLA communications, but can you describe the type of work you would be doing in your classes. Is there a lot of speeches you have to give? Is it a hard major? Thanks for the advice!

noble,

What did you think about the comm studies major? I just got in as a transfer but I’m concerned about the rigour of the courses and quality of the professors. I heard about a 3 1/2 hour final, where kids left shaking. Is this the norm? I know that it’s incredibly competitive to get in, but once you’re in the major is it really that hard?

Please let me hear back from you soon.

Thanks.

Good morning, I am a chinese applicant applying for freshman, and I found that the communication studies major is closed. What does it mean? How can I apply to the major?Thank you very much!

Comm is hard to get in, but once you’re in the classes aren’t that hard.

To get in you should have a 3.9+ and all pre-reqs completed.

PS should mention internships, clubs related to Comm. You should be socially aware and active in the community, even things like AIDS walks helps. Lastly, you should have a long term goal of PhD or Law School.
