UCLA Communications or USC Annanberg for Communications?

Which school do you think is better for communications? I am trying to major in communications and minor in film. I know that UCLA’s communications major is very impacted but I also read that USC Annenberg ranked #1 for communications. Is this true? Which school do you think is the better option for future job opportunities and what do you guys think the major difference is between the two schools aside from the tuition?

It depends on the list. Payscale.com has ucla ranked higher, but quite a few of the lists had USC listed higher. Despite my obvious bias toward UCLA, my feeling is that USC would probably be better for employment, assuming you want to work in the Los Angeles area. I think it would be a stretch to say that USC has the #1 comm program in the nation, from what little I’ve read. I also have no idea whether any perceived advantage would extend outside of LA. I am, however, not a communications major and I don’t really know what the job market looks like in general. I can’t imagine there would be a huge difference between them given that they are both strong institutions, but who knows, I would be interested in hearing what someone else thinks.

both are very good and very selective. Apply to both and see what happens. Do you have the stats to get in?

Umm I have a 4.0 and had a business and work full.time.but that’s about it…

Even a 4.0 is no guarantee of getting into UCLA or USC these days.

I view the Annenberg Program as among the best in the nation, though not necessarily #1. At least as far as broadcasting, there are a whole slew of local television reporters and anchors in the SF Bay Area that graduated from Annenberg. I don’t know that much about UCLA’s program.
