Going to the Engineering Open House, I learned a lot about UCLA's CS contributions to the world. However, it seems that on this board, UCLA's CS program is really UNDERRATED compared to other top schools. Does anyone else think that UCLA's CS program is underrated?

All the CS majors are busy studying like good kids, why would they waste time trying to defend UCLAs engineering program on a online forum.

UCLA’s CS program is excellent, has great researchers, and its graduates have no problem finding jobs. I’m sure that was made clear at the Open House, and it’s true.

What’s the catch? There’s about 10-15 schools (depending on whom you ask) that do all of those things just as well or better. 10-15 isn’t a large number, but it’s a number. So when you see a UCLA vs. ____ post, if ____ is in that group, then UCLA may be discussed in a less favorable light. Does that mean that UCLA is underrated? Not really; people are just answering questions about how schools compare.

The next question: what makes the other schools so appealing? It’s usually a combination of the following: money, reputation, location, alumni network, interdisciplinary programs, breadth of research, and likely other things I’m forgetting.
